If I’m fishing 40# anywhere it will be on a US76HP.

For bait fishing I vote for the 80 Tilefish 2nd would be the US 80 terminator..

I really like fishing #40 on my US 80 Predator. I don’t know why it wouldn’t be fantastic at Guadalupe.

Last season I searched and pulled on many "40# sticks" including a few posted above and ended up with a Calstar GFX800H. I found that most are too damn stiff to toss a bait. Especially the smaller bait we had last season. The GFX seemed to have the perfect balance IMO.

Not sure if it will be good for Guadalupe as I've never been.

I fish US80HP for 40# and US80 Terminator for 50# - both kicked ass. I know a lot of folks fish 40# on the Terminator but I really like it for 50#.

Normally I use my US80HP as my 40# stick but at the Lupe you need the extra backbone of a step heavier at the "End game" to get them in quickly. Therefore I use my normal 50# stick (Tilefish) as my 40# there and use my US80HP as my 30# stick. Being the tax man is usually present it is required that you pull like a man and not care if you lose the fish. Many times that is the only way you are going to be successful at the island.

I have just finished building a TileFish. When I compare mine to Fishybuzz his rod is a different diameter than mine and is much faster. Could UC have mislabeled the blank or have they change the construction of the blank?
The blank I have is no way a 50# blank.

You sure you didn't get a Tilefish JR..? That is a 30# blank...

Is your's 8'? The Tilefish Jr is 7'6" and is a lighter rod. Do they have an 8' Tilefish Jr blank?

8 foot blank. And no, UC does not make a 8 foot TileFish Jr.
Yes, yes they sure do. Only reason mine is a 7' 6" is because they had not come out with the 8 ft version yet. But when I had my roommate on the AA get his, I made sure he got the 8 ft version. Wrapped by Jim Trelikes and pics were probably posted here on BD..

I fished a tilefish jr for a majority of my three days at the Lupe last season, and the Terminator was my "other" stick. You will not be dissapointed with either one. Good Luck.
