Friday afternoon made the run to Santa Rosa knowing the moon was not in our favor. Last month fish went off 2 days before the 1st quarter so crossed our fingers for a Sunday bite. Couldn't get 1 squid on Bechers squid bed during the night, metered some but no takers.
Saturday saw very little life between in Rosa,Cruz gap so around noon headed to the east pinnacles for some shallow water catch and release fishing. Lings, reds, chuckles, cabazons, etc. were caught and all survived release without needing decent device.
Went back to Bechers, still no squid so BBQ'ed and went to bed early.
Sunday 3:30am anchor up and looking. Gap full of life, whales, porposes, fin bait, squid, etc.
Missy got first WSB 28# around 6:30, 2nd 24# around 8:00. I finally got mine 24# around 9:00. A log barracuda (released) for Missy around 10:00
All fish on sardines, dropper loop, weight on bottom, loop 4' up. Who say's you gotta have squid. Other boats connecting out there also.

Nice. Finbait is equally effective when squid unavailable. Nice job.

Kickass Greg. We were out there too. Made the bumpy run across Friday afternoon. Picked up 4 wsb and a nice halibut. Had a hard time floating the squid Friday night but Sat night got them good.

Thanks guys. Great info. It's a serious commitment from Oxnard and a couple of strikeouts spoils your enthusiasm to make the 110 RT. Especially when there are good numbersd of very finicky fish close. I think a tank of squid would change things locally very quickly.

Looks like Mark49 found the squid Friday night. That's what you get with a little extra work! Saturday night we just wanted to BBQ and kick it. Will have to step up my game next time.
I think we saw you out there but, wasn't sure. Do you have your name on the boat?

No name on the boat yet. I have a funky filet table that came out wrong that you can spot my boat for now. I am trying to get it fixed this week but stainless guy canceled. We scratched at the squid Friday night making maybe 20 pieces running out of bait early sat. Sat night we finally got a good float. Whats the name of your boat? Kickass your wife can handle overnighters let alone two nights.
