@Hardcor I get it. I understand. I just don’t think the CG needs to know about every log of tree floating out there. Its part of the risk of going offshore.
The CG may say thanks for the 411, but I doubt they broadcast it on the VHF.

I rarely hear a broadcast about a navigation hazard unless it’s near a harbor entrance or in a navigational waterway, or something really big like a partially submerged boat, dead whale or container. And that’s not very often either.

Boaters want to call it in. Cool.

I assume that is directed at me. Where did say “I don’t trust the coastguard.”

All I am saying is I don’t think the coast guard is broadcasting the coordinates of every piece of debris floating out there.

The YouTube channel is doing good, I haven’t posted a video in two years and it’s still rolling. About not calling in hazards, that’s a bit over the top.

In this video you can see that after I get the Tuna going wide open, I gaff my brothers Tuna, Call in the fleet, hook a Tuna, land the Tuna in one minute and gaff it myself. It doesn’t get any better!

Responsible boat operators call the coast guard before they leave and ask if any hazards to navigation in the area they plan to be in. If you don't report it you shouldn't be out there.

Thats akin to calling the cops before I go out on the highway to see if there are any hazards to worry about. theyll probably just say "yes, keep an eye out and stay alert" then hang up and go "hey joe, you should here about this call I just got !!"

plus the fact that a 3knt current has taken the hazard far from where it was reported, so unless its tracked they have no idea or concern about where it going. its what nature does. the coast guard in the PNW would be swamped daily of reports of floating logs, they are all over the place, they dont give a rats ass. If you feel good about your pre fishing call thats awesome, but dont call me irresponsible if I dont, cause I dont

I would be much more concerned about hitting one of the dumb ass Molas right now. I saw about a hundred in a 1/4 mile stretch right out of the DP harbor. Thier heads kept popping up as they gobbled the blue sails, just like Pacman.

We call those widow makers! nasty and they frequently appear up north as well after big rain storms. Hard to run at night knowing those things are out there.

PNW can be a mine field with all the wood floating just under the surface all right. Slower you go the less damage when you hit.

I was at Catalina with a buddy years ago. We were headed back to the boat in his little whaler going around Cherry but too close to shore. His boat, he is driving so I mention once that a little more space would be prudent. He doesn't take my advice and a few minutes later - BANG! Mangled prop and bent shaft. He is pissed and starts bitching that they should mark hazards like the rock we hit. I point out that if they did that he would be bitching about the thousands of buoys strung all around the island.
