It was like that most days from about 8-1 or 2. Windy as a bitch when the fog rolled out, then flat calm, then some days getting very windy again early afternoon. The dangerous part is the being way the fuck out there when those winds come up.

Winds and swell were pretty cool until about 45-50 miles south. Then, it wasn't so big just a washing machine.

Sitting in the teeny room watching the blue screen made me green. I felt like shit for a coupla hours. Nothing like sitting at the wheel in the dark watching the radar - in a washing machine - to make you feel a little funny.

Well thanks for posting Joel. Last thing we want to do is encourage new boaters to go charging offshore when there is the possibility of high winds. Santa Ana winds can be tricky and dangerous. You can be at the Islands in flat calm then get your ass handed to you in a half hour. We lose a couple small boats every year, hate readin it.

But, being in it is much much worse than readin it second hand. Better safe than dead.

One of the issues with Santa ana winds is that they blow from e – w. What you sometimes end up with is a 2-3’ of wind chop out of the e colliding with 3-4’ ground swell from a westerly direction….when the two meet it creates a washing machine condition, swells from every direction hitting one another and jacking up to 6’+. No fun…trust me

    The wind blows :D

I feel a chain yankin,.... but Sage has got it. Been lotsa guys spend the day and or night anchored up on one side of the Islands as shelter waiting it out. Scare the shit out of you for sure. It's a blessing when there is a chance of it and it doesn't show and a real fucking nightmare if it does and you are in a smaller vessel. I've learned my lesson.

Eventually if you boat enough it's gonna present itself but not worth tempting fate.
