I spent last night removing PC Fix Speed from my computer, wondering where I got it from. Today after dinner I visited one site before BD and no problems. As soon as I visited BD, the PC Fix Speed icon and pop-up ad appeared on my computer. I think BD should distribute PC condoms for every member.

Icon popped up in lower right corner (MS Windows 7) and then the pop-up showed suggesting you run their fake scan. I spent an hour and a half last night running a complete scan using MS's Scan and then removed it using MS Security Essentials.

Here is my good deed for the day. Read this and follow the steps and you can fix your virus issue and prevent them in the future.

1: Update your software. Most importantly your browser and OS.
2: Protect yourself with the following programs.

    Extensions for browsers:

    • Adblock - Blocks annoying ads on webpages and in videos. Surf faster and safer. (Better than Plus)
    • NoScript - Open source add-on (for Firefox) which allows JavaScript, Java, Flash and other plugins to be executed only by trusted web sites of your choice.
    • ScriptNo - Similar to NoScript only for Chrome instead.
    • Adblock Plus (Firefox) - Block ads, just like Adblock only for firefox.
    Security:

3: Set up regular virus scans and make sure you are using updated definitions.
    4. Use a password management tool and start using strong passwords for anything important (this is especially important if you've been infected).
5: Back your hard drive up regularly.

And almost forgot. Bleepingcomputer is an absolutely-fucking-tastic resource to get help. You can get tutorials from basic concepts to photo and imaging. There is also a forum dedicated to virus removal. They have detailed tutorials on most common issues such as fake virus scanners, ransomware, rootkits, browser hijackers, etc, etc, etc.
