The day for the BD ¾ Day Snaggie Sizzling Summer Drama Charter FINALLY arrived! I’m sure there are plenty of you who are glad to see an end to the Drama thread but it was all about the anticipation of yet another trip with a good group of friends. We planned a potluck, we had an original group of people who rsvp’d that in the end cancelled and had newcomers to the group. We had a 4th of July trip thrown in the mix with the thread which ended with a BIG BUST of the fireworks show but a good time fishing. We had spots open up and an auction fundraiser with proceeds going to the Warrior Kid’s trip thanks to La Vida donating his paid ticket for the auction. This opened the opportunity for the winning bidder @-EZ to donate a trip to a Warrior. Other spots opened up as well and a few of the others going on the trip offered to split the costs so that other warriors could go onthe trip.

There were a lot of private messages amongst these guys to coordinate who could donate what to pay for the costs of these people to go along. This was some of the good drama! Then there was drama about who would bring what to the potluck on this trip, there was drama about INOXicated doing a sleepover at Snarl’s the night before our trip since INOX was coming in town to volunteer with other BDers for the Warrior Kid’s Fishing trip. There was drama that Simon wanted to start a kissing booth as a fundraiser. There was major drama about whether we should fish local or go to Mexico for the recent yellow bite. We knew we’d need licenses for Mexico too and it was becoming a costly trip for some. Then some BDers stepped in to offer paying for licenses for those who could not afford it, so going to the Coronados in search of yellows was the plan! More calls, more PM’s, text messages, drama, some were going to back out, then decided to go since it was to Mexico! Finally! Our drama was behind us, and things were settled! Or so we thought!

Then the big drama came on Friday night when I got a call that sportboats going to Mexico would be confiscated if those on board did not have VISAs. The Point Loma was not going to go to Mexico now and I had to deliver the bad news to our group! We packed our gear and planned for local fishing as we resorted to showing off pics of what we were baking for our potluck!

So on Saturday night, many of us volunteered on the Daily Double for the evening Warrior Kid’s Fishing Trip. We enjoyed a good time, fireworks and got home late in the evening. Not getting much sleep, we were tired to begin the day but we hoped for a decent trip and boarded the Point Loma. Captain Ron started off with a quick meeting to tell us the details of what was going on as Gil Marlin got his trusty compass out to ensure we were headed in the right direction!

The water temps dropped dramatically Friday night. Fishing had slowed down and he wanted to try fishing north towards La Jolla. He had some feedback on some spots and thought we’d give it a try. So we headed north. There were a few decent swells that had the boat swaying and Drew ended up sick for most of the day. Poor kid was eating bread and drinking sprite all day but it wasn’t helping much! The water conditions had green foamy stuff floating on top in some areas and we wondered how the day ahead would be for fishing.

We got to our spot and tried to get live squid but to no avail. Ed was there and generously shared some of the very famous “Ed’s Jigs”for us to try yo-yoing. Some fished live bait, others jigs, others plastics, we tried everything we could. Max spent some time rigging up something to try.

Meanwhile, Simon carries on a conversation with JJ, a warrior who got to fish his second trip on the Point Loma, this time thanks to the donations from some of our group to pay for his trip.

The food for our binge-fest began to trickle out. We started with some donuts and then burritos. Otto quickly went to work pulling a prank and spiking the donuts and burritos with major hot sauce to see who would eat it. He filled the top burrito with a bunch of hot sauce and placed back on the pile. Giggling on the sidelines, he thought his dad picked up that burrito but come to find out, it was Jack Graham who did! Nice Otto! Watch out for him at your next potluck! The food was awesome and we had such a great variety. Smoked chicken from Simon, Smoked halibut from Tommy, Bluefin Tuna from Wayne, layered dip from Mikey, Sundried tomato pesto torte from Gil Marlin, pineapple macadamia nut cheesecakecand peanut butter cookies from Snaggie, Spinach Dip from Brandon, Brats n peppers from Simon, Von’s homemade chocolate chip cookies from Snarl, Tri Tip and Pulled Pork BBQ from Dean, enchiladas from John, sushi plus bday cupcakes from Marty, Mexican pinwheels from Aaron, Veggie platter from Junyy and more… I can’t remember it all!

Nice pic of Dean and his son Jack. I got a kick out of watching him on this trip! He was very sweet and kept coming up and talking to me. He was quite the little charmer and cracked me up!

Simon decided to provide kisses for $1.00 as a fundraiser. Gil Marlin brought a toothbrush for Simon to use to freshen his breath after each kiss. He also had lei’s to offer. As you can tell from the pictures, to get lei’d was priceless! Otto decided to take the fundraising efforts over and placed the sign on Jeff (Grunt's) back without Jeff knowing. Then he places a lei on his back for decoration. Then he poses for a pic! Jack Graham offers Jeff a dollar donation and Jeff still has no idea of the sign on his back. And the toothbrush torch and lei’s are passed on to Jeff. Drew tries to get in on the action…

First fish on board is a short WSB by Wayne. Then Aaron brings in the first legal, a sanddab and we joke that he might be the King Champion with his big Sand Dab catch! Fishing was slow, lots of small rockfish caught and then some bigger sizedf ish. MrKrabs (Marty) was catching fish left and right throughout the day. All kinds! We caught a variety of fish and I myself caught nothing significant but spent a good amount of time running around taking pics! Here are some of the fish pics. I stopped taking them of Marty after awhile as it was exhausting to keep stopping to take a pic of all he caught! Some big, some small…

We had a few snags here and there. Each time someone got snagged, they got a clothespin pinned on their lei.

And just as we started getting tired, and about to give up hope on catching a yellow, I hear that Snarl is hooked up on what appears to be a big fish. I ran over to the rail with my camera and he had that same look that he had on our last trip where he reeled in the jackpot halibut. He was focused, he was serious, he didn’t take his eyes off his line. He spoke to those around him with a voice of control. Some ran to the rail to cast in the same direction. Others came to watch what was going on. Cory the deck hand was standing by ready to assist, Captain Ron was overseeing and provided input as Snarl continued to reel in his line. It was out quite a distance and he stated a couple of times, that he hoped he didn’t snag a dog. We had a few dogs swimming all around in a frenzy. Jeremy was tossing bait into the water to distract the dogs and I stood ready with the camera! Snarl kept reeling in the line, nice and steady, focused and ready. We all watched to see what it was and it finally came to color! We held our breath hoping the dogs wouldn’t steal it as everyone seemed as if they’d jump in the water to save the fish if needed! And there it was… a nice-sized yellow! 27.7 lbs! Cory gaffed it and it was safely on board! High fives and a some hoots and hollars! Way to go Snarl! I took more pics as the others continued to try for yellows to no avail. Snarl ended up winning the title of King of the BD Snaggie Sizzling Summer Drama Charter 2012! He was crowned and given a trophy.

It was time to head home, it was getting late. As we headed back, I brought out the awesome raffle prizes and swag bags from our sponsors! I would like to thank the many sponsors for their donations! BD and Fish Dope was a huge sponsor with donations from some of the sponsors of BD including Grundens, Seaguar, Halco lures, Bubba Blade and more! We gave the Bubba Blade knife to Snarl as the Jackpot winner! The crew used the blade to filet Snarl’s yellowtail and said it worked like cutting butter! Everyone was drooling over the Bubba Blade knife and wanted one! 2nd place won the Halco lures which was given to Danny! We also filled the swag bags with some GREAT t-shirts and lures from Accurate (Thanks Ben!) We also had donations of lures from Wayne which went into the swag bags! Gil Marlin donated a 15 foot surf rod for the raffle which was won by little Jack (Dean’s son) along with a Guy Harvey cap won by Spyder. And Jack Graham donated some awesome lure rollup bags and some handy handles for reels from his business – Lines-in Products. Jeff (Grunt)donated a Pirate Queen flag won by Simon! All donations were greatly appreciated! Please take some time to thank and frequent the sponsors businesses who donated to our event. We had some pretty cool prizes to give away! Thank you to BD for allowing us to post our drama and provide a place to share some good laughs and posts!

It was a very long day on the water, fishing was slow, we were frustrated that we couldn’t go to Mexico but our trip was a fun one with good people, good food and a 27.7 lb yellow to boot!

Thank you very much to Captain Ron and his Point Loma crew for giving your best to find the fish! A huge thanks to the guys in our group who chipped in to make sure our Warriors could fish along with us. We can never thank these warriors enough for what they have sacrificed on our behalf. I hope you enjoyed the trip.

Here’s the link to all the pics I took. Feel free to pick some of them out and post in this thread with your own version of what was going on!

Thanks Travis, he is kinda cute :D

Jack and I had a really really great time on this trip. Winning the surf rod that Gil Marlin donated was the icing on the cake for Jack. He was so excited to get 2 prizes! Yeah fishing was slow but the laughs and grub were WFO!

Thanks to everyone who contributed to the trip! Maggie, Jack, BD, Scott and everybody else. JJ it was a pleasure to meet you. Thanks for putting up with Jack's curiosity about your injury and thank you for your service and sacrifice.

Capt Ron put in a great effort in tough conditions! Somebody needs to fix his PA though LOL His crew was on the ball, friendly and helpful. They did a great job.

It was nice to meet in person some old names from the board Aaron, Jack, Marty, Andrew, JJ, Jorge and Max. Great fishing and shooting the chit with you guys.

Carl when you hooked up to that YT I noticed several people around me had that look on their face like they just smelled the milk and it was rotten :D I was one of them LOL j/k. Actually when you hooked up we were in the galley talking about throwing in the towel while you were on deck giving it hell. Good for you!

Great pics, report and cheese cake Maggie!
