I hadn't been to Vail Lake for over 30 years. Me and my dad used to go out there when I was a kid and fish from shore. So, when I got the invite from a couple buddies, Keith and Mike, to head out there again, it was nostalgic to say the least.

Not to mention, these guys had been telling me stories of crushing bass out there. 100 fish days sometimes, with shots at some bigger models.

Met the guys yesterday morning and headed to the lake. Arrived around 8:30 and launched Mike's sweet Ranger. What a fishing platform.

Here's the bad part: The wind blew all day. 20+ knots out of the east. Made for tough conditions on most of the lake. These guys had fished the day before and absolutely crushed them, so expectations were high.

We pulled to the first spot, and Mike had three releases in about 5 minutes fishing wake baits. That was a good way to start.

We picked away for most of the day and ended up with about 40 releases. Fished everything from wake and jerk baits, to crank baits and plastics. They pretty much ate everything.

Even got a couple on the GitLit Lures that Boyce and Chris gave me. Gitlitlures.com Thanks guys.

Most fish were between 1.5 and 3 lbs, with the JP of 6.9 lbs on the digital.

Here's Keith with his best catch:

Here's my JP. The other guys out fished me 2 to 1, but I was looking for big guys. :). It ate a plastic crawdad on the carolina rig.

Fishing that place is awesome. Mike is starting a guide service up there as well. If you want to go fish with him, give him a call. He's got all the gear. Just show up and be ready to fish. His number is: 951.233.3538
