Been waiting awhile for the wind to back off and Monday was looking good according to NOAA forecast with NE 10 and 4 ft seas. Sunday night NOAA upgraded the forecast for Kaiwi channel to 15kts.....a little breezy but waited too long so chanced em. Got in the water at 5:30 and hit the first knuckle of the banks just before 7:00am. Within minutes got my first strike and landed a 15lb Mahi....alrighty no bolohead! Fished the first knuckle area the entire morning and continued to get singe and double strikes through out the morning. Most strikes came while going up sea and being a little rough, I turned the boat down sea to fight the fish but lost a few in the process with the line going slack while making the turn( small disadvantage fishing solo in a small boat in bumpy water). Finished the day taking over 15 strikes, losing a few but managed to get 2 Mahis , 2 Onos and 4 shibis. I even had a 7' hammerhead shark take one of my Mahis and lost a small marlin that would have given me my first clean sweep! Can't complain....sure beats a day in the office!

Jack, Thanks! I was grateful that the weather allowed me to get out and have some fun!

Luzh, yeah, the ones caught in January and February were small cane knife size. Over my past two trips I noticed that the many of the Mahis being caught now are G&G size(over 20lb).

Gerry, Thanks! Had a feeling the action would pick up...a few weeks ago there were bird piles everywhere but the fish were not biting. In fact, what few fish that were around were caught early morning during the tide change and stopped by 8:30am. This time the fish were biting all morning and even got a couple of strikes up to 1:00pm.

John, thanks for the nice words! Was a lot of fun and made the time pass by quickly!

Pat, Thank you! Always nice to come back with some fish in the bag! I'll probably start coming out to Waianae from June and start hunting for those big yellow guys....can't play those porpoise piles like you!

Todd, Thanks for the kind words! Btw, congrats on your last trip to the banks with your catch of Mahis! Season is still young so hopefully we can load up some more before we start chasing those fat yellow guys out at Waianae.

Mike, Thanks man! That's the kind of work you don't mind doing!

Pete, Thank you for always having kind words! Hopefully the fish cooperate this year for us all. Have you been going out? Wishes for a great season of fishing this year for you and your crew! Hope to see you out at Waianae this summer.

    Robert, Thank you!

Lee, Thanks man! Finally a day where falling asleep wasn't going to happen!

Hey Randy, Thanks man! What's been happening with you? Haven't seen or heard from you in a while....been fishing?

Brian, Thank you! Had to wait a while for these damn winds to mellow out a little....at times I wish I had a bigger boat! Oh well....that's what dreams are for!

Luke, Thanks man! Nice day it was! Great day on the water....fish biting, decent fishing conditions and got back safely.

Hey Jimmy, Thank you! Been getting out? Hope to see you guys this summer at the wash down in Waianae with big YFT in your fish bags!
