Remarkably egregious and lazy behavior! But hey it saves them money in not having to take their refuse to the dump when they dock. Sad!!!!

It seems to go in waves over here. Some trips we find a handful then a few trips we see none. Never leave them out there of course...

I have used regular balloons before with mixed results never a kite. Recently I read about using helium balloons so you don't have to depend on wind yet get your baits to fish like on a kite. That appeals to me.

We have gaffed our fair share of balloons over the years, we always play the "name that balloon" game, sponge Bob, Happy Birthday, Dora, then you have to gaff it on the run. Those things work just like a hot air balloon, the NW wind blows them inland but as they get higher up they hit the inversion layer and head back out to sea...graduation time is prime time to gather!

It's an absolute shame the amount of people who have no idea the amount of plastics and the harm they cause in our oceans. I'm in the position to approve or disapprove events in our town based on the town code. Recently an application came across my desk for a family to release 100+ balloons at their daughters wedding on the beach, we are a coastal town on the east coast. Maybe I handled it wrong, however, I denied the the app. and sent it back with pics of sea birds and turtles that have died do to ingesting plastic. Needless to say the family filed a complaint with my manager and I was reprimanded. Reprimand or not I'd do it again without hesitation. Freaking people.

Get a Boston Big Game Kite and forget about balloons. You won’t need them.

Awesome! Have been gaffing balloons for years and glad to hear others despise them as much as I do.
