    The entire west coast of Baja seems to be kicking into high gear beginning at Ensenada with a mixed bag of surface fish being caught offshore and inshore. From there on down, it just gets better, which should be good news for the tournament at Punta Abreojos this coming weekend, http://www.bdoutdoors.com/forums/baja-mexico-fishing-reports-discussion/354680-punta-abreojos-tournament-sept-16th.html and Ensenada the following weekend, [IMG]

    Zihuatanejo

    Dorado action was "wide-open" for the past week with easy limit fishing opportunities only five miles offshore for 25 to 35 pound dorado. On the other hand, the sailfish bite, which had been excellent, had slowed down, but the dorado catches had provided terrific action for the few anglers that were fishing.
    The inshore fishing is very good for roosterfish when the surf settles down enough to allow boats to get in close. Unsettled weather has impacted both inshore and offshore fishing causing port closures and some very windy and rough days. Many of the boats are being taken from the water for annual maintenance projects and will be out until early October.

    Final Thoughts

    Tournament season is upon us with the Zane Grey Invitational, the first of the west coast billfish series going on right now, next week the Catalina Classic and Avalon Billfish Classic and then attention will turn to Los Cabos in October. Then the Los Cabos Billfish Tournament, October 11-15, 2011 http://www.loscabosbillfishtournament.com/ will kick things off. Followed by the Bisbee, Los Cabos Offshore Tournament, October 14 – October 16. http://www.bisbees.com/Then the granddaddy of them all, the Bisbee Black and Blue Marlin Tournament, October 23 – October 27. Then in early November, the Los Cabos Tuna Jackpot Tournament, November 2 - 5, 2011. http://www.loscabostunajackpot.com/ With the recent appearance of blacks at Gordo along with the cow-sized tuna plus more blues spotted every day, anticipation for an exciting fall tournament season is growing.

    Go do the right thing, catch something, then send me the report!

    Gary,
    Is there anywhere to get a list of marinas with fuel and services south of Ensenada?

    Here is a link that lists all the Marinas throughout Baja and Mexico.

    http://www.mexicowatercraftinsurance.com/marinas-in-mexico.php#bajanorte

    If you are asking where you can purchase marine diesel down the Baja coast to Los Cabos a couple places that don't show up on a Marina list would be;
    Turtle Bay (municipal pier)
    Magdalena Bay (San Carlos (municipal pier), Magdalena City (barrels to the boat), Santa Maria Bay (barrels delivered by boat)

    In an emergency and somewhat iffy would be San Quintin and Punta Abreojos.

    Gary, I was told Bahia Tortuga and Baha Magdalena don't they also offer marine diesel off of pangas...any pros or cons of using the panga service? Thanks....

    The trade off is not having to go to the San Carlos pier which can be intimidating. If you have never been there before.

    However fuel is substantially less than when purchased from pangas at either Magdalena City or Santa Maria.

    Turtle Bay pier is a little different since you moor to the pier using your anchor and stern tying to the pier. Not sure of the price differential but I'm sure the panga delivered is more expensive.
