Great write up and pictures! I haven’t fished her in about a decade, but she looks very well taken care of. Your detailed story was a great read. Some of those big night fish are really tough because you are sleep deprived and really not at your best. Sounds like the food was insane! I will have to look into a future trip on the Islander due in part to your experience.

Great report! And very, very smart of you to recognize wrong thinking on your part. Bluefin fishing is very different from all other tuna fishing except really huge yellowfin. Hundred pound bluefin are every bit as tough as anything else with fifty more pounds to play with. Sixty pounders break our hearts regularly. Teamwork is the way to go. Sharing hookups is good karma, and accepting a hand-off is also a positive vibe.

And for your next trip, try hard to get into one of the double bunk rooms like B or C or E or F. Trust me, you will be even happier.

Great write up. I was on the islander 2 years ago. Good trip fish did not want to play. But scheduled for June and July this year. Would like to find something later in the year aug Sept or October but all charter trips that time of year.

Islander is a great boat! It was originally the Red Rooster II. Thanks why it has the nice cabins, heads, galley, salon.

each bunk had a fitted sheet, a top sheet, and a pillow (with an "islander" embroidery on the cover). no blanket. I threw my Mex blanket on top and had my own pillow as well.

No blanket? last time I was on the boat the AC was COLD! Definitely need a blanket.

to be clear: I always take my own blanket, and I did use it on this trip... they just don't provide them. I actually can't remember any boat that provided blankets since COVID.

Went on the American Angler a few weeks ago and they provided blankets. I was shocked, but in a good way.
