Well after three long months the Hag is finally back together and running great. (Thanks Doug) So we decided to put her to the test and run the distance. Launching from Shelter Island at 12.00am and baited up from E Bro's with some great sardines. We made the 6hr. run to the Tuna grounds. Setting in the numbers that Socalmat was so gracious to post Friday night. Arriving there at 5.45 we here that Waa-2-C just put a Toad on board at the same numbers we are headed for. So we drop in the jigs and start trolling 10 minutes later but felt more like an hour ZZZZZZZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzz! Yeah Baby! My Tuna season has finally begun. This stop produced 1 jig fish and 2 baitfish. Lines in again and another 10 minutes later we're stopped with a double that produces about 6 bait fish. We put the lines in one last time for our final stop where we plugged the Hag with limits for four and another limit of catch & release. It's now 7.45 and we are done. We heard reports of guy's getting into some real WFO bites but for us it was just real steady bite we always seemed to have 1 on and at times all 4 of us were hooked up. But the fish were never chewing our paint or boiling around the boat. Some of the fish were caught using fish traps on the jig sticks and that was a lot of fun.
At 8.00 we took a bunch of pictures and set off for the long up hill ride home. This run really put the Hag to the test as it got just plain nasty out. About a four to five ft swell with two to three foot wind chop on top of it and throw in a six foot ever once in while made for a long nine hour ride home sometimes only being able to do 9 or 10 knots. I would have liked to post last night but after the long trip, cleaning boat, fish, etc. I just didn't have it in me. Any way here's a few pictures of the trip. Thanks
