    Short but sweet this time.

Booked a trip on the Aztec as a father’s dad gift. Pops flew down from up north and we jumped on the boat with my buddy + his son and ~20 other anglers.

Capt Greg had found a new zone of fish down about 80mi on Friday so we were headed down that way again (along with the whole fleet). Got a tip from a dude who got off the boat while we were loading, said go light line 25# then drop to 20# if the bite slows later in the day. Even gave me a half spool of 20# pink label. Cheers dude.

Up at grey light and fishing immediately on a sonar school. First bait I got in the water was bit and the rod went to dad who got to tangle (no pun intended) with his first bluefin. Thought it might be a good sign that it would be wide open but it was more of a plunker all day.

Ended up going 3/3 on bluefin and 1/1 on yellowfin. Yellowfin came later into the day when Capt Greg powerslid into a foamer and i was able to get a popper right into the foam. My buddy’s son went 2/2 on nice grade 40+ BFT on a colt sniper. JP fish was on a FF fished by a badass angler named Molly.

What worked: 25# flouro + small ringed circle hook (no1-2), 60g colt sniper, 100g Katy Perry FF, halco popper (only if u could cast into the foam).

    What didn’t work: Dad’s bonine.

Forgot to give props to the best short range boat in the fleet. Capt and crew of the Aztec are as good as it gets if you are serious about catching fish. They do whatever it takes to give you the best opportunity to catch fish. period.

The ENTIRE fleet was down there today, mostly drifting and not having much luck. Greg busted his ass going from spot to spot trying to scratch up a few biters. We landed double the fish anyone else did in that zone.

The number of fish down there is incredible right now by the way, don’t be fooled by the counts.

Love the boat and crew.....except one deckhand in the backround of the photo who cut my line off in kelp instead of cutting the kelp off my line. 45 minute fight and colored 3 times first bluefin GONE.
