Long story...just docked up this AM on the Aztec.
    Enjoy the read.

    Wednesday, 2PM
Half way to O side from Dana, on the I-5, sunny and hot, seas look flat...priceless.
Bodes well for Thursday on the outer banks

    Thursday 6 AM
Gray light BFT 80 to 100+ on the Tanner. Some on dead squid one or two on flat falls. After the dust cleared we had 9 fish. CONDTIONS: Wind none, seas flat & hot...water clean & in the mid 60s.

    10AM
Start looking...found a few more scattered fish that didn't want to play. Boated 3 or 4 more to this point.

    12PM
Hook up with the Freedom who passed us some greatly appreciated live squid
Still on the tanner with everyone else, O 95, Thunderbird .. you know the rest. Kept looking but couldn't get them to go.

Capt Greg ( I gotta say I love this guy) made the call to head to the Cortez. He said screw this..I'm not wasting OUR time here with the rest of the fleet so off to the Cortez to find our own.

This was my first time on the Aztec and I am a new believer ...Capt Greg gives Macus a run for his money.. insanely passionate fisherman.

    2PM
OK .. on the Cortez. Ground swells running 15-20ft. In the distance we can the high spot is breaking big... Justin (using the gyros) estimated 30-40ft breakers. I've never seen The Cortez break and I gotta say it was worth the trip. We were miles off the high spot and could still make out the shape big hollow tubes.
Back to the fish....didn't take long to locate some YT that wanted to die. Boated 51 fish 25-30# just outstanding quality.

    3:30
Heading back to to Tanner for a shot at a Sundowner

    5-8:30ish
The rest of the fleet is still sitting there so we start hooking up on the live squid and boat 7 more of the larger model BF (no BFT for yours truly but did manage 2-28# YT)Stoked, just an awesome trip.
Can't say enough about the boat except I have made the Aztec my go to boat along with the NLA.

Depending on the current and the wind, which we had none, 1/2 to1 Oz egg sinkers and 2/0 to 3/0 circle hooks. Some fish taken using rubberbanded 4 Oz torpedo sinker and some on 200+ Gram Flat fall jigs.
I took both my Yellows on Tady 4/0 single book in blue and chrome.
PS: Florocarbon is a must for the big BFT. Hope this helps

I was on this trip and fortunate enough to finally (for me) get one of these jumbo model bluefin we've had around this year. Like Nick said, absolutely beautiful conditions beautiful sunrise and sunset, always cool to see Cortez breaking even from far off. the yellowtail were such a nice bonus.

Again, like he said, I got bit on 3/0 ringed circle hook with 1 ounce glow sliding sinker on FROZEN squid before we got live from the Freedom. 80spectra/50mono/50fluoro 2 speed andros 16ii, 40-100lb Phenix rod and still got my ass handed to me. Almost embarrassingly. Never have I had my ass kicked like this by a fish.

As always Greg and crew are top notch. He put on "eye of the tiger" on the speakers right after the first hook up. Haha it got me pumped! Especially because I got bit next.
