Well, I work a ton (like 60-70 hours a week) and this along with 3 kids 6 and under is why I do not post much any more. Hardcor, unless you would like to go look at my youtube channel for videos you won't be getting many any time soon. Oh well, screen shots will have to do.

I have been out with my little girl since she was about 4 fishing the harbors for halibut and about 3 or 4 times in the afternoon in big swells with stiff wind and no respectable fish to speak of really. I had an afternoon appointment cancel last week and told the wife I was taking my kid fishing. I knew the wind was bad but I went anyways with the hopes that it would lay down. Took us 35 minutes from Nacho's to the spot in my little 17 foot skiff. My daughter complained a bit about her feet and hands (I don't blame her since it was rough) and I asked her a simple question. "Well baby, do you want to go home and have dinner with the family or keep going and see if it lays down enough to fish with the hopes of getting a yellowtail?" She looked up and replied that she would like to keep going and catch a yellowtail. We had done these late afternoon trips a few times to no avail but were determined to get at it again. It was so rough at first that I didn't feel comfortable stopping to flyline as waves would come over the bow if the little boat faced the wrong way. We slow trolled and hooked the first fish, landed it and proceeded to catch 2 more with a couple short bites. I held the rod and sat behind her while teaching her proper form of pumping and winding down. After the second yellow was gaffed she looked up at me and said "Dad, remember when you wiped that tear off my face earlier?" I told her that I did. She said, "That's because I was so happy we caught a yellow tail." with a sincere smile. Truly touching to say the least and a really great moment in my life and fishing career.

Long story short for the rest of the week. Went solo once for tuna and nailed 3 on a paddy that I found all to myself. Also, after catching 3 hopped in and got some great footage of some pelagics and shot a yellow while cooling off.

Went out maybe 8 times in the past two weeks while working in between and during and scored 15 Yellows, some bitchin underwater footage of tuna eating my bait, dorado and yellows along with my daughter catching her first 8 yellowtail! I held the rod with one hand for support of my $1000 setup :) and she pumped and reeled like a little champ like the best of them. Very proud dad. Pics are mixed up from different trips including one with my buddy for the YT as well but you get the idea.

Epic local and offshore fishing all in my little 17ft skiff. We are truly blessed to have all this. Sometimes it's hard to remember this when on the water and other people cross some lines, literally. I am guilty of this myself, but I think we can all agree that we are lucky as hell to have what we have in our local waters.

    Cheers, Ben

Oh, for the guys that like to know gear.
Trinidad 14a paired with Phenix Black Diamond Hybrid 809 MH 15-45 I believe is the model with 65lb braid, 30lb Izorline topshot and 30lb yozuri pink flouro.

Areas fished were 209 for tuna and 105-Green buoy for YT.

Ben, this is the best post that I've seen in awhile. I can just feel your stoke about fishing with your daughter. So Awesome! My son is only 2. One day he'll be old enough for me to create some memories of my own. This just makes me look forward to that even more.

Congrats Ben. With a young lady on board, I see why profanity on the radio would be an issue for you. For the exact same reason, my radio is generally on 16 and dont monitor other channels.

Ming, I have two others behind this one including a young son. "We're gonna need a bigger boat." :) I remember those days when I first heard I was having a child and how excited I was for taking them fishing, hunting, surfing ect. The time has finally come and yours will too!
