And gave away two rods Rob was one of the lucky ones he won a RCE800Wahoo CT Rod!! Big Thank you Gary Grant and UC!!

The weather wasn’t that great as we all know but Captain Jeff Spafford, Captain Mike Kowalski

Chef Mikey Lindquist, Leadcrewman Jake Bos,

Crewman Chapo Reyna & Trevor Lansing did a great job keeping us comfortable and getting us on some fish! We headed out at 7:30pm Friday night

Captain Jeff decided to head to the 43 to look for Bluefin and Kelp with Yellow Tail! We woke up at 6am Saturday to the smell of Coffee brewing while chef Mikey was making Loco Moko! Yum!!

While we saw signs of life at the 43, nothing was willing to bite so we headed to Desperation Reef near San Clemente island and anchored up to fish for rock fish, a couple of guys hooked up on some nice Yellow Tail but lost them but we all caught a variety of Rock fish, Whites, Reds, Johnny Bass etc.

Captain Jeff decided around 5pm to start heading south all the way down to Ensenada so we all sat down to a great Chicken dinner cooked by Chef Mikey (an amazing cook) and sodas from the Soda Fountain & cocktail from the nice Galley Bar..A group of us Anglers relaxed played cards along with lots of fish stories and laughter...Our ride down south was very smooth because we were going down swell so we all headed to bed & were all comfy in our ex Large/wide bunks...

At 6am Sunday we woke up to the yummy smell of Blueberry Pancake, sausage & Bacon Cooking in the galley... after filling our bellies THE HUNT WAS ON!!!

I was able to get some internet connection and read that other boats had seen signs of very large model Bluefins on Saturday so we all stating changing out our lines to a heavier fluorocarbon leaders, 50 to 130lbs I tied my Izorline leaders on 50, 80 and 100lb tests on three of my large two speed reels...rigged a glow flat fall and crimped on a 3/0 & 5/0 Owner Circle Hook also put a rubber band torpedo sinker on one of my setups!! My advice if you are going to fish this area for these monsters bring your big guns all you large gear along with some small gear just in case!! These fish are Big!!!

Around 8am Captain Jeff spotted a huge Foamer just ahead of us and notified all of us to get ready and only use you big stuff! With bait flying we all dropped in some using Flat falls 200gm, others rubber band with a Torpedo sinkers & I used a Flyline... we could see big foamers in several spots around the boat and within a couple of minutes two Anglers Dan & Mark hooked up at the Bow...Dan on a mackerel 9/0 crimped hook with rubber-band 160z torpedo sinker...Mark with a 200g glow Flat Fall 80lb leader on his United Composites rod...

    The FIGHT WAS ON!

I immediately reeled in and grabbed my camera I knew this was going to be some amazing footage with some big BFT’s...Dan was doing a great job fighting his fish mainly staying at the Port bow but then quickly going down the Starboard side crossing around Marks fish but the crew effortlessly executed both anglers and there fish around each other Dan’s fish raced down to the stern then back up the bow with another crossover with Marks fish heading to the stern the excitement of everyone on board was building with everyone still fishing hard and giving lots of room to the two anglers while they fought these beasts! Dans fish was finally landing within 42 min and weighed in at 185lbs!! Way to go Dan!! Meanwhile Mark was doing a great job too but was having trouble with his reel he could only wind it in in “the low gear” so with some help from Captain Jeff & Mike they were able get some leverage on this beast and Mark continued his fight first at the Starboard bow then at the stern finally landing it at the Bow and this BFT was big to say the least the whole boat cheered with high fives all around his weighed in at 160lbs!! Great Job Mark and Crew!

Captain Jeff decided it was time to fly a kite with a Macheral baited Double Trouble..within 10 min two very large Tuna boiled on it simultaneously and we were on!!

Captain Mike started reeling in then handed the rod over to me wow this fish was mad and not happy a beast for sure!

Captain Jeff told me that when I was tired I can hand it over to another angler “wrong thing to say to me because that spelled out challenge to me and I fought it all whole time my adrenaline was pumping and I just didn’t want to give up this is what we come out here for and I wanted to feel that tug drug from this monster and I did!! Captain Mike had to take over at the end because this big BFT was trying to go under the boat but within 5min or so we landed him! Taped in at a whopping 198lbs the largest BFT I’ve ever fought and it was So much fun!

The crew and all us anglers cheered! What an awesome day on the Tomahawk the Captains Fish hard and the Crew work very hard to make our trip one to remember and this trip is one that we all will remember! We ended our fantastic day with a Prime-rib dinner and apple pie with ice cream!

Schedule your next Fishing trip on The Tomahawk it’s going to fill up fast!! Thanks to Gary #anglerettes #Unitedcomposites. #Anglerchronicles ##bluefin

No they were not close enough even with the best cast but I think this is a start to the season getting better to where we can start using the poppers!!

No they were out of casting range mostly flyline sinkers and flat fall! I heard from the Pacific Queen that all the BFTs they got today were on Flat falls 200 to 250gm
