2 speed is out of my price range, also this reel is not going to be used exclusively for jigging, for jigs I have a calcutta 400TE, inshore a saltist 20h, Im more in the search for a nice 40-50# reel all around (trolling, bait, irons), strong drag, nice line capacity and durability and more important in $200-$250 price range

24# drags? do you have any mod on that reel? as long as I know it only have 16# drag, what is your best catch on this reel?

The only problem with the mc is that when flylineing live bait it decreases your cast so you can't get in the zone

I have both reels, and the LD40 has been smooth and strong no issues at all and averaged 20-25 Albi's per season on it so far x 3yrs. Just opened it up for the first time after seeing Alans tutorial and it looked new inside and all I've been doing is rinsing with fresh water after getting it home. It did scuff up easy bouncing with the other reels. The avets have more bling, but haven't put them through the test yet...I'm hearing bad things with side loading and ruining bearings...but I'll stay within specified drag settings and see. If you're on a budget and want a decent 2 speed, go with the diawa...I think most people fishing the diawa LD 2 speeds are still fishing them strong. I picked up my LD40 2sp New for $249...to get the 2 speed AVET it will cost you $$$. My next toy is going to be a MakairaII.

What's up with people dredging up old posts today? This one is 2 years old. I bet he made his decision by now.
