I've never used the mc, but I have a jx g2 6/3 and I occasionally pair it with a 12 foot penn battalion surf rod for sturgeon and crab snares. I can consistently get 75+ yards on every cast throwing 6-8 oz. Personally I dont feel the need for the mc, as just spend a day or 2 casting and training your thumb, you'll be happier in the long run.

I've used the Avet MC reels a lot, from SX to HX, and probably prefer the wider model for surf fishing like the MXL or LX. Smaller diameter spins up easier. Magnets make casting thumbless until spash down.

For surf and sharks I really prefer the Penn Squall 2 15 SDCS throwing 30# braid with a 50# shock leader and a 3' 300# Texas rig, 4 oz egg and a 9/0 beak hook. The Penn reel is less money, throws better, and still handles Leopards and Soupfin. It was designed for surf.
