I put together a trip to SCI yesterday with the goal to land some nice grade BFT at SCI. A few guys from the Boat Ho Section accepted my invitation and we set off to SCI with the plan to stop on paddies on the way up to the island. We found several paddies from the corner to SCI canyon. The water was a little off color and the temp was around 73.5 ish. The area below the 43 had a string of kelps with many of them empty. We were able to hook a handful of dodos on lite line and firecracker bait.

We decided to leave the area and work our way to SCI. We set up our kite gear and kite and started to troll once we found an area with some BFT. Unfortunately, we didn’t get any bites on the kite but we had one school blowing up near the yummy.

We ended up bringing the kite gear in and started to look for the busting BFT. We had quite a show from 6:00 pm to sundown with big BFT blowing up on big bait balls. The fish were in the range of 100 to 200 lbs. We tried to connect on artificials but weren’t able to get the job done.

We called it quits around 7:30 pm and headed back to the barn.

I want to thank the crew on board for having fun and trying their chances on hooking the big BFT.

Cool video! You should have hung around for a few hours and soaked a bait and dropped flat falls.

Thank you for the post. It's funny, we all scream with excitement over the breaking fish, super impressed that we are witnessing surface feeding, because it has often been true that we will get a bite from them. When the fish have spent the last 700 days looking at every form of SoCal fishing boat every one of those days, not so much it seems, but maybe next time.
