I'm posting the following on behalf of Bob Franko the President
of the Coastside Fishing Club in Northern California. Please take
a few minutes to read this, and if you feel compelled take a few
more minutes and send your letter of support. You want your
recreational fishing voice(s) heard then click the link;
otherwise start looking to take up a new sport.

If you think the folks making the closures are not coming to
Sandy Eggo/Lo-Cal you are kidding yourselves and saddly mistaken.
You don't have an island for them to take away, but they don't care.
Some of your coastline has been marked and targeted, so put down
your beer bottles, drop your brain darts, and leave the pills on the table.
Please get your $#!+ together quickly!

Thank You!

John.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
It was but a few years ago I came to this community an
asked for your help getting Darrell Ticehurst appointed to the PFMC.
You brought it home then, and we all know the excellent fruit that
produced. Now we need your help again.
Dan Wolford has made the short list for the seat on the PFMC being
vacated by Roger Thomas, who has long been a voice for our recreational
community on the Council. The Governor submitted only 3 of the 6 original
candidates to the Federal level. Dan and two commercial fishermen have
made the final cut. So if we are to maintain a recreational presence on
the Council, Dan is the only acceptable candidate. This position is one
of only 14 voting seats that control the federally managed fisheries on
the West Coast. I can't tell you how important it is that this seat
continues to speak for recreational fishermen.
So once again, I'm asking you to utilize this link provided by ASA to
send this pre-written letter of support for Dan. It will take all of
about 60 seconds.
Keep America Fishing -- Pacific Fishery Management Council Recreational Fishing Seat
If you are so inclined, it would be great to also write a personal
note. If you do, it should be sent to:
Dr. William T. Hogarth
Director, National Marine Fisheries Service
National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration
1315 East West Highway
Silver Spring, MD 20910
Or to his e-mail at [email protected]
I am also asking that you post or carry this request to other boards
where permitted. Dan is being supported by nearly all of the major
recreational political organizations, but it’s important that Washington DC
hears from all the recreational clubs in California.
This is huge so please take the time.
Respectfully
Bob Franko
Thanks for your club support.
Our fishery is too important not to care.
There's only one of the 3 people selected that's a Recreational Supporter.
The other 2 are Commercial interests.
Man you really have your crap together, NOT!
Release your pecker from your hands and send a freekin' letter.
Otherwise you're telling me RFA backs the Commercial guys.
This issue has been tossed around on another board, mostly No Cal posters, for quite a while now (since Feb) and I have been reading both sides it it appears CFA and RFA were backing different people. Looks like the person the RFA was backing was not in the final selection, my bad, however this is still a political issue IMO.
Believe me the federaly mandated closures are a huge deal, and I have witnessed first hand the envros organization and the lack of in the fishing community.
Done John, Thanks.
I disagree this should be on the "political" forum. It will get the most viewing here, or even in the general forum! And if we don't take action to protect our right to fish, someday we may only have a "political" board!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Lighten up, go fishing.
Done - you would think this would be made a sticky on all the forums on this site......:shake:
Great idea, thank you. :appl:
I'll settle for this board, not the whole site.
Heck even I stay away from some of the political stuff/crap.
I wouldn't expect it on every board.
That's why there are specific topic forums.
Heck I can't even get a sniff and reach-around on the political board.
I could splat it everywhere, but I respect what Jason and Ali try to accomplish here.
That's why I p/u the telephone and call them with a request.
I like the telephone better then a PM anyway.
If you like really like the idea, just tell all your posting Bro's to grab the LINK
here and send their quick letter telling the closure squad they better pack
their lunches because they're in for a fight as they move down the coast from No-Cal to So-Cal to Lo-Cal.
Take care.
John.
Six nominations were submitted to Arnold from California, including Dan Wolford (Coastside), Jim Martin (RFA), Kate Wing (NRDC), plus 3 different commercials. The vacant position is an at large position which means any of the West Coast States plus Idaho (salmon) can also submit nominations. This vacant position has traditionally been filled by a rec fishing representative. The other 13 voting positions are currently filled by commercials or sport boat owners, many of whom also have commercial fishing interests. Anyway, Arnold initially punted on the process and sent all 6 nominees to NOAA. NOAA came back and said that Arnold had to scrub it to 3. He did, dropping Jim Martin (RFA) and Kate Wing (NRDC) in the process.
Now there has been a lot written in both WON and on the internet about the rec fishing community "splitting the vote" on this matter by submitting two nominees. The fact is that the decision to cull the nominees was based on qualifications, not popularity. It was never about dividing the vote or recs vs NRDC enviro girl. It was and will be about the most qualified person for the job. Those qualifications include fisheries knowledge and public presence as evidenced by the person's ability in front of a public forum. On another message board there was video posted of Jim Martin and Dan Wolford in action in front of the Fish & Game Commission. Dan ran circles around Jim while Jim's performance was downright embarrassing. RFA supporters wanted to believe that this was just an isolated incident. The sad truth is that video is simply Jim and there are far worse examples out there. The RFA and Jim Martin have crafted an internet presence, but their public reality is far from that portrayal. Unfortunately, some people buy into it. We needed a rec person to fill that slot on the PFMC and UASC and Coastside knew that Jim Martin would never make the cut. Thus the nomination of Dan Wolford. Make what you want of it, but it was the right decision and Dan moves on.
Dan has already been introduced to Hogarth at NOAA in DC by UASC Board Members. Hogarth is in agreement that the seat should be filled by a rec, but you never know when it comes to politics, thus the letter campaign.
RFA is quiet on this because they've been slammed and what little influence they had in fishing politics is rapidly slipping away. The sad thing is that they are not stepping up to support Dan's nomination. You can bet the ranch that not a damn one of their board members will write a letter in support of Dan's nomination. Dan is a true rec fishing representative, has a science background and knows his stuff about fisheries. Where he doesn't know, he for damn sure digs in and finds out. He's always prepared. Simple put, he's a professional and he will represent us well. Send the letters.
Yeah BigJoe take that. LMAO!
Thank You Steve!
