I am using 60 lb jerry brown hollow, I make leaders that range from 20-50lbs. On the SX ill put on 20-30 lb leaders of blackwater fluorocarbon. On the MXJ I will put 35-50 lb leaders of blackwater fluorocarbon.

scott,a friend just picked up an hx raptor, awesome reel, but i personnally can't see payin 550.00 on a reel that has dual drags but not on both sides, like the accurate.don't get me wrong,i've been an avet fan since the first gen.lx but i think their{the raptor}is overpriced.i went with the penn 16vsx this time, but will buy more avets someday, which might be a while since these reels will last a long time if maintained properly..

The Penn VSX only has 28# of drag and is made for 80 maybe 100 lb line. The raptor does 40# at strike and it will button up to 50lbs and it can hold 100 -130lb line.

I am going to quickly find out how easy it is to cast on the Avet using a 770XXXH this April and that is what I am looking for. I really do not know how the penns cast but thats what I think you are paying for + the added drag. The price might drop but since I am going in April I wanted to pick up the next best thing. Maybe at Fred Hall they might run a special...

unless i send it down to alan tani to hot rod.i don't think the avet holds as much line as the vsx.and the penn seems more sturdy, imo, you button that avet down to 50lb.s and it might blow up.there both nice reels though.and there american made.

how good is the FHS in "real" special prices or discounts on reels?
I went to FHS in San Diego two years ago and prices seems to be almost as good or little bit better as any good fishing website.

Does Avet booth offer good prices ins the show? I might be going this year
