Saltwater Area 9 and 10

We stayed and putzed around, trying (not very hard) for coho. Landed and released another 5 kings. (Around 10 pounds). And lost another 5. Based on what I saw, A10 is going to be lights out in a couple of weeks.

You did better than my boat did yesterday. Caught and released 1 probably half-clipped king but I was paranoid, and 3 dogfish. Reeled in the head of a coho too, but no body.

Jeff head is heating up. Amazing amount of bait and krill on the surface this morning. got to see the whole food chain. small balls of krill were on the surface even bubbling/ jumping out of the water tiny things, herring were feeding, and salmon splashing and hitting the herring right at the boat. I about got splashed by a salmon when i was leaning over grabbing the downrigger clip as it chased herring arround the boat. Hooked into 3 kings, one 8# hatchery went in cooler. Another 6-7 # fish with a fin sent back and a good 10-12# plus king we had on halfway to the boat up at the surface untill some idiot decided to cruse by at 10mph to find a new place to put his rod in the water right behind our boat as we had a net flying and 3 people waving him down to stop. we were even away from the pack and several hundred yards from the nearest boat. He looked over then continued on and shrugged as he then ran over and drug our fish and line 100 yards and snapped. 🤬 Hope that braid eats up his prop seals🤞.Now there is poor fish swimming around with spoon, flasher and 100' of braid. $50 reward if someone catches and returns it lol. And it was my new favorite flasher☹️. Kids on the boat kept me from loosing my temper. 5 coho kept us busy and rounded out the cooler. Fun morning getting the kids on some fish and nice weather !

Only one takedown in Area 10 this morning but it was this 13.6# fat hatchery hen. Don't think the run is even close to peaking, hoping for more adult kings to keep flooding into our Seattle fishery.

Fished the area 10 in my front yard with @Cwillis Monday afternoon.
Casey is so good we didn’t even have to have the boat in the water to get a picture with a couple limits.
This is about 50’ from what @blackmouther describes as the cabana hole.

Honestly, probably the most effective thing everyone can do is submit a voluntary trip report after every outing. The MSF fishery uses a lot of assumptions and extrapolation… we can DIRECTLY influence the number of estimated encounters through our VTRs… that way they’re not extrapolating out crappy legal to sublegal numbers to every estimated fishing trip.

They opened resident coho early, and we started burning through the sublegal quota in early June. So effectively we traded August chinook for early June coho. OMG. We are only like 40% through the keeper chinook quota, this is all about June shakers. Good gravy. I understand that many factors are out of their control. But opening early for resident coho at the expense of mature kings is entirely inexcusable.

The tribes have their ways of getting recs off the water. Quota doesn’t matter when they’ve worked in the encounters in the equation. Saw this same BS in MA7 years ago. Hope those dink coho were worth losing all of August for kings and ONE coho the rest of the summer. F’n BS.
