That'll put an end to buffer zone fishing at Clarion?

I guess the next question is, what if anything, can we do?

Damn! Guess we will be doing more prospecting in the future. Got to be more options than Clarion and Hurricane Bank during the winter.

Last time this went down and we could not fish the buffer zone...it was HB bank only......the lower banks had no fish so we spent the entire trip at the bank.....and it was really slow..... that was 22 years ago.

    David,

Thanks for the perspective. Like many things in life, someone has already been there and done that.

Will be interesting to see how all this plays out.

Would the range of this new biosphere encompass the HB? If not...man that would be a long way to run to come up short at the bank, and not have any other options relatively "close" by.

Thanks Basil. It is unfortunate for the Long Range sportfishing community. That area is really an amazing ecosystem and I feel fortunate to had the opportunity to see it. So the next chapter begins and I guess we will have to wait and see what transpires.

Soda I know you and others are leaving soon, see if you can get an idea what the captains are saying.

Wow another one bites the dust... (before some of us could get there) !#[email protected]&#!

Wonder if a "permit" system will eventually be initiated to allow "select" operations (you can imagine) to enjoy the fishery ...

Might provide "funding" for the preserve ... (again you can imagine)

The "preserve" designation is up for interpretation...

    Sian Ka'an Biosphere Reserve (Mexico):
We were told that approximately 3% of the entire site is visitable (which is good...no...More .... This UNESCO World Heritage site is well worth a visit. Fish here with Pesca Maya
Anglers fly fish two per panga under the watchful eye of both a senior and junior fly ... Operating within the Sian Ka'an biosphere reserve, Pesca Maya Lodge .... established in 1986 and became a UNESCO World Heritage
    ??????????????

Still, some access beats no access...

    Tight Lines...

Last year on my 10 day on the Indy the crew mentioned Cedros was looking like a goner....a few months later it was.

This year it looks like Clarion is next up.

I consider my self a bit to the left and pro Environment.....I was reading through the posts on this FB page....it's a full scale attack on SD Long Range fishing....seems less about making it a preserve and more about attacking SD LR...its a total witch hunt.

This is a bummer. I was afraid this would be the next step. I could not find a date in the article when this goes into effect. Did anybody find this? Also, is there a map? It references the 6 mile exclusion zone. How far is it now?

Looks like the rules of engagement can be unique to any of these areas. Guadalupe Is. is part of a "success story" but no mention of the fact that limited Sport Fishing is allowed. The Tres Marias are part of a Biosphere with limited Sport Fishing as well.

Interesting article/perspective in this story if you read through the entire text. I think we need to be part of the conversation to be successful. Probably how they regained access to Guadalupe.
