I had an opportunity to get my hands on a Davis Bahia pilot house. A friend had acquired the hull/house molds, and each house mold contained a semi-layed up unit. The first step was removing the old aluminum frame, top, and windshield. Then a roof was made out of 3/4” Divinycell, glassed w/ polyester and 1708. Once the lid was attached, the next step was to design an adapter footing (foundation).
Because of dissimilar shapes, this was the hardest challenge. 1 1/2” Coosa was used by staggerEd strips, stacked on each other. After grinding, and fairing the corners, I began to glass this adapter piece. The footing was laminated to the base of the boat, and the pilot house on top of that. After some final fairing, gel coat was sprayed. I just had the windows installed, and am almost done installing electronics. The project took twice as long as I was thinking…. I couldn’t imagine the cost of so many hours if hadn’t done it myself. 1D1EA394-9486-4EDB-8678-D941C4045131.jpeg0CF91E42-6C02-4AB2-B1F5-61613FAEA445.jpegC1F17A56-AA05-4A3B-ACA5-015DE7BB29C9.jpegD167B7EE-E321-472E-88D3-D2BCFF6059ED.jpeg72056E73-9C3A-48FF-9C03-400855D63C58.jpegB11EE6AB-B850-4CE4-97EF-CAC814C489E8.jpegDCCDF50E-AE82-4DFE-B05C-A00B4CF421D0.jpeg24386A8A-317B-4EB5-B0D7-8DE2161CA752.jpegAFBE36FD-5C8F-44D5-AD1A-3384E6418DE5.jpeg5B582781-D3EC-42BF-A05B-45E5EDC5D949.jpegFD9E1902-7753-4208-9640-683D4ABA6F94.jpegE340A7E2-63C5-45A5-8646-C01D1480AC07.jpeg

Well i noticed in one pic you had a two person belly hoop on top of that roof , who engineered the stress factors on this design with 400 lbs of humans on top of this roof in a rough ocean condition ?

If I have a 400 lb. human up there, I probably have bigger problems!

I probably wouldn’t have two people up there, let alone in rough conditions.

Well ok so you have skinney friends that only weigh 150 lbs each and the belly hoop is built for two people , two times 150 is now 300 lbs ! It all might seem fine in the driveway but out on the ocean slamming down off a big offshore swell that three hundred pounds now turns into 900 pounds for a split second ! Think it will hold up ok ? If your sure it will hold up based on shear force calcs. Etc. then just tell me to go screw myself . Lol But just for shits and giggles why dont you have two 150 lb friends go up on the roof when you bolt that belly hoop on ( in your driveway where its safe ) and have them hold on while throwing their body weight from side to side as hard as they can just to make sure the roof wont fold over !

Again, why would I have two idiots up there in crappy conditions? I fish commercial by myself, so I rarely have company. Otherwise, these hat-sections were included for structural integrity. Thanks for being so concerned.
