The last time I flew alaska airlines it was 8 foot, I know you can pay more for a longer rod but I'm not sure how much more they get you for oversized cargo , look it up on the web on the carrier you're flying

Yup, 8 foot on Alaskan Airlines. What are you targeting? From Shore? From a Boat? What’s your game plan?

Reef fishing is fun with a cheapo setup some grub tail jigs and water bobber.

Never know what you gonna get. Fun stuff for kids too.

Flew where with Alaska; their policy is 115" OAL for the case, I brought my 9'2 popping rod to PV no sweat. There are some airlines that will let you bring 10' longboards over but it's not cheap, I imagine a 10' today is going to be a pain too.

go make friends with a local , and have them take you. it's a very specialized type of fishing. I caught my first in maui, only after making local friends and using their stuff. the rods were custom and 12' long. we used slide hook/baits, and break away grapnel sinkers. we caught little bait fishs in the tide pools , and had a little blow up kids pool that we filled with water and kept them in it. we fished an out going tide. first time I tried this way I got my first @108lbs. man what a battle.

I saw a 2-piece BlackHole at the FHS that was 14’. Most popping sticks are 2-piece so you can travel with them. I have a 7’7”, 8’ and 8 1/2’ popping sticks that are all 2-piece. Problem solved.
