I had the same, but smaller metal loss. To fix the problem, I had a new piece welded in. I did not replace the entire metal loss, just enough to put on a new foil. The fix worked just fine for as long as I had that motor.

I guess I'm going to look for someone that can weld .. I'm guessing it's aluminum ??

i've done a few cavitation plate and skeg repairs before. if you need help let me know.

Squibob, you have guessed correctly, at least for my motor, the cavitation plate was aluminum.
