See above. I've just spent the last 16 months dealing with the same thing. L4 S1 rupture.

You can't explain the pain to someone who hasn't been there. It's been debilitating at times.

You need an MRI to confirm but after about 10 months mine did get better. Now at 16 months I only feel about 10% of the pain.

I was going to go under the knife and as a last ditch I tried acupuncture. To say it was a miracle would be an understatement.

Eileen Han
(619) 249-7660

After about 6 sessions the pain was cut in half. After about 12 it was almost gone.

If you can't afford the MRI, do yourself a favor and go see Eileen. She's in Kearny Mesa at 163 and Balboa.

Good luck.

That needle thing just sounds to third world. My wife did it, and didn't have that great of results.

I have/had 13mm and 19mm bulging discs and compressed nerves......
L5/S1, and L4/L5
They wanted to cut on me...I said no.
SUCKED. Took about a year to get better 90% better. Ruined my hiking adventures, and I got fat again. LOL Its been doing great up until a few months ago, when i tried to stop a 350 pound container of water from falling over. I thought I was going to die. LOL Just it bothers me abut 50% the time. I was really worried, i may have screwed myself up, but with time, easy lifting, I am recovering.

The key for me is to lose some weight, and strengthen my core. Still working on that between beers, fishing and burgers. LOL

Seriously.....do you carry a wallet in your back pocket. A lot of your symptoms mock wallet sciatica.

Ask your doc.

Yea,,,heard bout that one It is true !

I would never have believed it, but trust me when I say it works. Like I said, it was nothing short of miraculous. I was taking 6-8 vicodins and 3-4 flexerils per day just to walk. After 3 weeks I was almost completely off the pills.

I always thought of acupuncture as complete BS, but after that there's no doubt in my mind.

Nope
your symptoms sound like claudication, you should have you MD order a arterial doppler study to rule out any blockage of the artery, especially if you smoke or have a family history. do not put his off! i work in vascular surgery and the symptoms you described sound suspect.

I had a patient come in and tell me she tried every option out there to treat her Siatica, she was able to get rid of it in 3 weeks using an inversion table. Since then I have recommended that option to others and had another patient say in was successful. Make sure you talk to your Dr. first if you have any medical conditions that might be affected with you in the inverted state. Good luck bud!

You can add me to the list of people that have had success with the inversion table.

My symptoms: 5 years ago, had bilateral radiating pain in the lower extremities starting in the lower back.

No meds taken, no imaging done, no physical therapist, no chiropractor, just went to Big 5 with a coupon from BD (thanks af dreamer) and got an inversion table for $99. Spent 10 minutes at a time applying traction with the table, and all pain was completely resolved within 1 week. I periodically use the table when I feel lower back discomfort, but the severe pain has never returned. I have since quit using long jig sicks, lift with my legs, use moving dollies, kick my keys home when I drop them (advisable safe practice in West Hollywood, Castro District, prison showers, and Coastal Washington), etc.

I noticed the OP was from last year of Sept and you still have the same pain. Spine problem will not show in regular x-ray. Best to ask your doctor for a referral to MRI or CT scan to diagnose and treat your problem correctly. A bulging disc can be treated with traction on inversion table or similar but not other nerve problem like slipped or cracked disc or bone growth and will create more pain on those treatment.

I will not go to chiro or PT without proper diagnostic from MRI or CAT scan otherwise you are just wasting time and money and risking to have a permanent nerve damage if it's nerve related by waiting too long. PT or Chiro will assumed your problem as sciatica or pinch nerve which i rather have than vertebrae or other spine problem.

I just have my ALIF surgery with fusion and laminectomy last week due to slipped and cracked disc and spinal stenosis ( a bone growth that pinching on the spinal nerve) which create all sciatica symptoms. As of now i'm on back brace ( two incision front and back) and can't do any bending or twisting or anything but i was better now after surgery. Before i cant even walk or stand for more than 5 minutes and have to stop which affected pretty much all of my activity and didn't even got to fish last season. Right now all i'm dealing with is pain from surgery recovery and i'm pretty much happy on the progress.

So i suggest to get am MRI or CAT scan to get a proper diagnostic and get a right treatment and maybe you don't have to go under the knife like some of us do. I am 3 months out of work for now and cant wait to heal properly for this coming tuna season that i missed last year.

I have had non-surgical back issues all my life and about 10 other conditions requiring actual surgery. Good, bad, good, bad etc,etc is my life story.
My advice.....See a chiro(eastern med.), and see a ortho/back specialist(western med.) as well. Let them treat you ONLY if you feel comfortable(gut-feeling) with them and with what they say.If you do not see "considerable improvement" with either(in about 2 mos) move on to another who might have a more accurate diagnosis/educated guess. Please keep in mind....If you don't care for a provider(Dr.)in the beginning you just simply move on to the next, you are not loyal to them and you owe them nothing! Its your one and only body we're talkin bout here and you want the absolute best care for it.
AND by no means have any surgery till you have a 2nd opinion! Especially back surgery. Many insurance plans cover 2nd opinions.
Just my 2 cents from my own personal experiences.

Good luck!

Sold and now what
Not totally in line, but not out of left field. I've been going to this company for a few months now called Optimal Health; they have been doing some laser and electrical stimulation on my leg. It's made a world of difference in my life. I broke my tibia and fibia last year and damaged the nerves in my leg causing daily pain. Their treatments have reduced my pain level and frequency greatly.

I'd also reccomend seeing a specialist. Those doctors sure know what they are talking about... In my case I got to have an EMG done to test to nerves in my leg; kinda a fun test.
