Opening day success
Story? A beauty, for sure, but explain please!
My partner and I got to the area Friday morning. We scouted the afternoon and evening and only saw does. Opening day wasn't any better, only one doe, so we packed up and moved to a new area. We spent the afternoon hanging in hammocks in the trees to stay out of the heat. Later in the afternoon we started working the glass around 720. I found this buck; he was in a small herd with two other smaller bucks and three or four doe so I put the sneak on him. I don't know how but the buck let me get to 32 yards and gave me a perfect broadside shot. The arrow went straight through the heart. The deer did a donkey kick and went about 8 yards and died. My partner says I am the luckiest SOB he knows seems like the deer are completely nocturnal with this heat beding down before light and moving just before dark
Id rather be lucky than good!
very nice buck
Good job! Not surprised he let you get that close if he was with does. But I am surprised the does didn't bust you. Great deer. I especially like the pic of him freshly caped out in the hotel room.
