He didn't show pics of his old lady did he??
How can an angler know if someone isn't suspicious better than a trained marine or customs agent...

Shit happens everywhere, I go to Baja all the time, lots of check points, rarely get stopped and when I do they are very friendly. Also have been boarded on both private and Sport boats, it's annoying, but they are doing their job.

If they have been shot at by the bad guys, then I'm sure they assume you are bad until they prove otherwise just for self protection?

However, if no one goes down to Mexico to fish anymore, I love it, more fish for me and less traffic on the water and roads!

I am assuming he was boarded by their go fast patrol boat which I believe is a jet drive. I too have been boarded by this patrol boat and the helmsman nailed the side of my flybrdige with the bow pulpit/boarding gangway. Putting boats side by side in the open ocean with wind and swell usually means problems.

I feel sorry for the guy and the damage to his boat - sucks big time. But a "nightmare" story worthy of TV news time? Give me a break. Pick a real news story, please. I've been boarded my the Armada on more than one occassion and ( in case someone has been living under a rock) it is SOP for their Navy to have weapons trained on the vessel as they board. In my experiences the Mexican Navy personnel acted professionally and were simply doing their jobs.

It is no fun being boarded but one traveling in mexican waters needs to be prepared ( i.e. have your docs and shit in order ) and assume that eventually you can and will be boarded. It may be an uneventful experience or it could be shitty experience. One of the decisions a boater makes when crossing into mexican waters.

Why do some of you defend what they do so much? If less people go down there it's just less crowded...which means more fish for you? You go down there you face the consequences, good or bad.

Stan, you becoming a Mexican citizen and giving up your American citizenship? :D

Nah Mike..... Figure that in 5 years, I'll get my Mx citizenship then I can be dual citizenship.

Hell why let the Mexicans have all the fun ??

Not sure if it's completely defending from the pro Baja crowd as much as it's being tired of the trivial whining from people that come down here, find out you need commonsense and run home crying terrorism...had the Capt had the commonsense to put out His fenderswhen he saw the Mexican Armada approaching this would have been a none issue. But he didn't, the hulls bumped.. one going up, the other down.. swells do that.
Now he cries a river hopeing his insurance will cover his mistake.

And how he's gonna claim the damage to the Bano.........Goodluck on that one.

Just my dos pesos on this one incident.

Speaking of trivial whining ^^^^ Reaching into a hatch or storage compartment with the Mex navy rolling up on you is not a good idea, might look a little suspicious

The newspaper is responsible for blowing this out of proportion.

And passports have been required by the US and Mexico for quite some time.
