There is a certain kind of excitement this time of year when our “regulars” start arriving for their annual fishing trips….we feel it, as much as they do. The north winds are finally gone and we are enjoying beautiful weather with water temp’s in the high 70’s. Hot, sunny days in the low 90’s, together with cold beverages, makes for good fishing. We’re seeing lots of bait fish inshore, and the rooster fish are here chasing them. Even though tunas are on the bite right now, they’re mostly still a boat ride away, out in the 40 – 50 mile range, but we’re also having a lot of success with tuna near the Cerralvo Island, just north of us. Favorite bait this week arecaballito, camiseta and squid along with cedar plug chains. The marlin bite is hot! Lots of striped marlin and sailfish caught and released this week by our smiley, happy guest anglers like the Hallsted family. Visiting from California, South Carolina and Washington State this fun group of sixteen, had a wonderful time fishing three days aboard the LILLIANA, CALERESTE, YANET, ALEGRIA, ECLIPSE 91, DOROTHEA III, and VAGABUNDO. In addition to catching and releasing marlin, they caught tuna, dorado, skipjacks, jack cravalle and some smaller fish, while admiring all the sites and beauty, the Sea of Cortez has to offer. They reported sightings of mantas, pilot whales, turtles, mako and hammerhead sharks, as well as huge schools of dolphin. This group had so much fun, there was talk about returning later this year, as well as next year. We would be very happy to welcome them all back. It is always a pleasure to have the Bisk Family here with us at Hotel Buena Vista. This time we were happy to welcome them together with their friends, the Gee Family. They enjoyed an awesome three day trip of fishing aboard the ALEGRIA and the DOTTIE BII with two of the best captains on the East Cape. Welcome to Stephen Scott, Gunnar Eggertson, Brian Boot and Richard Williams from Vancouver, Canada. These guys caught plenty of tuna with crew members Julio Cota and Cristofer Avilez, aboard the CALERESTE and it was a pleasure to have them. Thank you to Jose and Roberto Benitez from Monterrey Nuevo Leon Mexico. It was their first time fishing with us, and they said it would not be their last. They fished aboard the 3 HERMANOS and YANET, catching and releasing marlin. We look forward to their return visit. All in all, it has been a very good week of fishing. It is a joy to see our clients smiles, and it makes our day to hear their stories. Remember, that at Hotel Buena Vista, you come as our guest, but when you leave, you are already a part of our family. Thank you all for choosing us, and for trusting us to make sure you have a wonderful time while visiting us. Thanks so much.
