Went out last week with some buddies out at NPH and had a good trip so I decided to take my dad on a late fathers day trip. Couldn't keep the poles in the water and on top of that the weather was AMAZING:hali_olutta:

Bait barge seems to never disappoint for us.

Caught around 40 fish, kept 4 bass. BTW the Calico went 16" about 2 1/2lbs. I'm more for sport than a meal, but if it came down to it, I could certainly catch my dinner. Not much for writing reports so I'll keep it simple.

Anchovies and frozen squid were the key choice for bait.
Calicos, Sand bass, spotted bay bass, lizard fish, halibuts, mackerals, a sculpin and some barricudas that bit us off a couple times but we didnt manage to hook any. Heres some pics.

EASY HUGH JORDAN...... I say, to each his own! I don't think the 4 bass this guy is gonna keep is due to the lack of quality. He seems to be psyched on fishing and thats a good thing! Keep at it, try some 3" Big Hammers and Practice CPR.... Thanks Guy'

So what do all of you have to say about the hundreads of bass being killed daily by the sport boats? really curious, because it's always the guy that keeps his legal limit that is the jerk.

im not one to crack down on anyone for keeping fish, but are those spotties even 12"? if they are i still dont understand why anyone would keep spotties, they are only in the bays and are self sustained, and there is a reason people dont catch 200 fish in one day anymore in there, besides i hear they taste like sh!t anyways. Aside from that nice catching with the pops. :2gunsfiring_v1:

One time I had to free dive off that barge to the bottom to retrieve a little two stroke skiff motor. John was messin around with it and it fell off. He refused to go get it. Imagine that, big John the hammer Cunningham pussed out. So I grabbed a rope and towed it down there and looped it through the motor handle. On the way back up the rope got twisted around my ankle, running out of air now, every time I jerked the rope up it pulled my ankle down, thought I was going to drown and it was damned cold. finally got it up and we put wd 40 in it, air it off for a day in the sun, it fired up. When I dove down there were quite alot of fish under that barge.

I'm not going to hate on ya for keeping legal fish.
It sounds like you had a real fun day out there with your pops;:appl:
However, I would encourage you to keep the short Hali's in the water, if possible, and gently unhook them. Grabbing them through the gills and holding them up for a pic is likely to kill them.

All fish were 12" or bigger, I'm not gonna be the idiot on a random day to get caught by DFG.

Seems like a gotta take a picture with the measuring tape and the fish next time. Plus there are marks on the boat from previous anglers that i measured and it was accurate.

I wish I could find Bonita in the bay. Listening to my pops older stories from back in the day, he said it was all you wanted to catch on huge rays, halibut, and bonito in that harbor. And hes nailed a couple yellows back when we last had the El Nino.

Sounds like my 1 spotty really put a dent in the fishing population...

I hooked it deep, Would you have thrown it back?
