Started the day off at Dana Harbor around 8:30 this morning with my friend Ken and his boy big J. Ran into Mr. Dave Hansen at the fuel dock so we knew it was going to be a good day. Nice to meet you Mr. Hansen.

We planned to do our normal winter drift for rock fish/bass. Weather seemed OK a little wind, wave periods a little closer than desired and the water seemed cold maybe 62. But I needed the trip so we decided to make the best of it. We worked the hell out of the drifts using dropper rigs which produced some skulpin and a good size whitefish, we wont talk about the random reptile fish that came up. Decided to abandon the dropper and hit some new drifts with swim baits, ended up with another good size skulpin and rock fish.

The captain (as usual) was getting tired of the weather/waves and the slow bite. I told him to chew on one of my gourmet home made sandwiches (I think he hit the honey ham/avocado/horseradish) and start another drift. I told him if this one did not pay off we would go back in. So he chewed on the grub... setup for one last drift then all hell breaks loose...

Fished from 9-12 and this bad boy came up... of course on the captains line. 43" 32lbs.

Another nice 12:00 halibut. This happens way too much for it to be a coincidence. I think it has to do with the highest light period of the day coupled with an older halibut's worsening eyesight = the best time to feed. Who knows? Anyway a lot of big ones bite at noon.
