I have been fishing British Columbia and Alaska about two dozens times.

Now I settle down at the Icy Bay Lodge and fish there annually just because fishing is fantastic, especially on jigs.

I got 270 lb halibut on a jig on the first year. The beauty of fishing there is you can use light 8 - 10 oz jigs as we fish only 90' - 100'.

Big ling cod invaded the offshore spot last year and it was common to catch 30 - 40 ling cod in 20 lb - 40 lb all on jigs on one day trip.

I just talked with Capt Michael and he said weather was not favorable from Monday to Thursday and they went out to offshore. As usual, he said fishing was great. They kept halibut upto 97 lb and release 150 lb halibut.

Here is pictures of yesterday's catch.

I will post pictures and report.

We are having fun with great anglers from West Coast and East Coast.
First day was big ling cod day and second day was halibut day.
Crew told us we filled three boxes of filleted fish ( 50 lb each box) for each angler already. Some plan to bring 4 -5 boxes as it is free of charge though airline will charge substantially. :) I opted to bring 2 boxes.
The biggest halibut on a jig was 150 lb by my daughter Jumee. All halibut and ling cod were caught using jigs with light Black Hole rods.
Two more days of fishing. I guess we practice catch and release. :)

Awesome Kil, Can't wait for my trip at end of July. I use 10,12, and 16 oz. lead heads with large curly tail grubs for lingcod and halibut when fishing out of Sitka. Should I bring those for my Icy Bay trip in July? bosco

We tried king salmon jigging yesterday, but we had only two on jigs. Trolling was good.

Wed was non-halibut day. We relaxed by catching king salmon on the third day. We jigged them first and we got two on jigs. We started trolling and they responded. We got three and lost three in two hours.

On the fourth day, we ventured out to offshore spot. When we anchored, halibut didn't responded at all unlike previous trips. As soon as we started to drift, game was on. We must caught about 30 halibut in 30 lb - 60 lb, countless ling cod and rockfish on jigs, and we kept only two halibut.

On the final day, we fished close to the lodge because of rain and wind.
We put shrimp trap inside the bay before we headed out.
We tried salmon trolling first, but bait and king salmon were gone.
We anchored close to the shore for halibut jigging. I did not expect much. But surprisingly many halibut in 20 lb - 60 lb responded to your jigs.
The biggest halibut was 75 lb by Steve and I got 11 halibut on jigs myself.

All jigging was done using light Black Hole rods. I will post pictures and videos how we fought halibut and lingcod using such light rods.
Everyone loved to use light rods for halibut and ling cod.

We had exceptional fishing with excellent anglers in excellent weather.

My daughter Jumee is small, but she is tough unlike his father :)
She landed 150 lb halibut using Black Hole Cape Cod 80g jigging rod on a jig.
She stayed on the rail all the time and she used heavy 16 oz jigs for big halibut.

Awesome video Kil! I'm ready for our trip this month. bosco
As long as we have good weather to go offshore, you can expect good fishing. Unlike in Sitka where you fish deep for halibut, we fish in 80' - 100' with light rod and light jigs.

Wed is non-halibut day. So we chose king salmon jigging. We got only 2 king salmon on jigs, but king salmon were there as we landed 3 king salmon and lost three on troll.

We still caught halibut while king salmon jigging. We released them all.

Chris got two king salmon on FCL LABO SL 120g jig.

We opted to go offshore spot again as weather is gorgeous again. Tomorrow's weather forecast is good, but you never know in Alaska.

We could see the summit of Mt Saint Elias, ,second tallest mountain in Alaska

When anchored, halibut didn't respond at all unlike on Tues. When we decided to drift, game was on.

I did not take many poto as the average sizes of halibut were 30 - 60 lb. We must released about 30 halibut and countless ling cod / rockfish. We kept only 2 halibut.

The final day.
Finally we had rain and it became windy.
We stayed close to the shore.
We started to troll for king salmon, but bait and salmon were gone.
We decide to anchor very close to the shore ( 1 mile). I didn't expect much and I thought our trip was over. But to my surprise, there were many halibut inn 20 lb - 60 lb range. I released 11 halibut on jigs myself.

.

Steve fighting 75 lb halibut using 7'3" Black Hole Charter Special rod.

huge skate

At the end of fishing, we picked up shrimp (spotted prawn) traps in the bay.
What a finish of this trip. :)
