Has anyone heard rumors or know if Okuma is discontinuing the Andros line of reels?
No they are not.
I also heard that they will be discontinued.
I heard that a new line is in the works that is replacing the Andros, or an updated version of it.....been hearing it more n more.
Called Okuma today if there going to up grade or replace the Andros 12's there being tight lipped about it. The normal progression of reels it would make sense that some type of up grade is coming. The 4 I have work great, only downsized to 2 because I to many reels.
I have 2 also the Andros 5iia and the 12iia and they both work fine as well. Adding the 12siia. Maybe new versions down the line??? New black ones would be sweet!!!
I heard that there is going to be a new line out soo. I dont think it will be out by FHS but maybe some teasers
A size between 12 and 16 maybe???
He didn't say anything about sizes just that they are having prostaff testing new reels
Interesting thing, today I went to the Okuma website because I wanted to look at the stats on my 16. When you bring up the Andros the only reel they currently show is the 5. Additionally, if you go to tackle direct they are out of the 16.
Turners website doesn't even show the Andros no more. I checked last night.
Was told today by Okuma that Andros is gone as well as Metaloids . New things coming but probably anytime soon. Tried to order 6 Andros 16II and a a couple Metaloids. Very disappointed
That really sucks. I just bought one.
Hopefully whatever replaces the Andros doesn't break right out of the box...
Lucky I sold my 5NII & 5II for a good price...good ridance
What issues did you have with yours?
I have the 12siia, 12iia and the 5iia
My Andros 5II works great. I use up to about 12 to 15 LBs of drag max. At higher drag settings you might have bearing issues. They are not thrust bearing like the Makairas and thus the side load on the bearing can cause damage. Side load is caused by the lever drag and the helical cut gears. I heard that Andros may switch to straight cut gears to reduce side load. I think the best solution for me would be to buy aftermarket thrust bearings. But for now I dont see the need, 4 years with several Andros and no issues.
Oh, you said good "riddance"....so i figured you were happy to get rid of them cuz you had issues with them.
No man. I said I loved my Andros. What's your problem?! I said I had no issues.
My 12NII died about a minute in to it's first Bonito, could not reel with drag engaged to any decent lb setting.
