Just incase anyone was wondering what they both looked like size wise to one another here you go
I also compaired it to the Penn Fathom 40N as well as it seems a popular choice IMG_8319.JPG IMG_8318.JPG IMG_8309.JPG IMG_8312.JPG IMG_8311.JPG .

The Andros has just shy of 500 yards 80lb solid izor and the Mak is shy 500 on 100lb
We could have kept going but wanted some room just in case I went longer than my normal 6/7 foot leader

Both the Andros and the MAk have the same gear ratios of 4.3.1/1.31

The mak is on a UC Centaur and the Andros on a Phenix Axis HAX 780x2h

How does the 40N compare in line capacity to the others, spool size looks to be a hair smaller?

Killer set ups, John. I have my Mak 16 on a 76 Centuar, Mak 20 on a 76 Viper and 40n on a 76 Raptor. Gotta prep for my October Lupe trip.

Let us know how the andros holds up with the high drag and if there is any handle bind. The Apollo had a few on the boat in PV and they have yet to use them. they said the line capacity was the same as the mak 16. I'm still looking to add a mak 16 to the arsenal but trying out the Avet hxw 3 speed first. The Penn 40n with tiburon handle earned it spot in my line up. I fish that on my uc predator for 60-100lbers all day. I wish okuma would add a makaira of similar size!

    great pics

but can you take more pics of the FT40 along the mak10?
Im debating on get me a mak10 or a 15 for the extra capacity to fish 300yds 80#.
I though the mak16 was going to be hair bit bigger than a FTH40ld2 but its another different animal in size and line capacity, I dont know if the mak16 will be see much water on north sea of cortez (gonzaga area) for the big size.

I dont plan to use 65# braid cuz they break easily on the rocky sticky bottoms when fishting a bottom creature or squirrelly YT.

The Mak 10 is roughly the same size as a Fathom 25N, much smaller spool height than the 40N.

thanks, I read somewhere that mak15 is similar to an avet LX in lenght, but I find it a bit too wide, okume should have made a mak16n, it would've been a killer reel, or made one on the andros line up.

would you mind taking more pics but this time put the mak16 along the FTH40 side by side the check the sideplates height and pic from above to check the width.

I live in Baja and cannot check the Makairas anywhere to check them in person, I had a FTH40LD2 and currently have 2 Baja Special which are similar to the FTH40ld2 sizewise and line capacity.
