Question is why not? If you know where you like your reels position at put it on. Makes your life easier swapping out reels. I have 3 jig reels depending on what I'm chasing or even back ups when I'm getting a reel serviced
Not crazy at all.I put reels seats on two of my jigsticks because it's easier to change reels and the first time you clamp a reel down on corktape the corktape is damaged where the reel sits.Just locate where it's comfortable for you.
Nope. I plan to put a seat on all my jig rods moving forward. My last build was a 100JMag and it has a seat--I can't fit a factory clamp over it, but the reel is very secure. With the seat, too, there's no cringing over that last turn of the screw wondering if I'm going to hear the blank splinter!
I had my last two 9 footers made with reel seats with the last one being a 9E/Reaper. Nothing wrong with it IMO. I also like Hypalon, cause if I’m going to be in a long fight, I want some cushioning on my hands.
if it is yours only n has dedicated duty (casting jigs or live bait) reel seat def better. if u multipurpose it, share it b/w very diff size people using it, or if ur 14 yo n still growing, then dh style may be better option.
