Saw that there was a charter cancellation for Sunday so I booked immediately on a hunch. This was my first trip going solo to go after game species. Anyone who has seen my posts knows I've been asking a ton of questions pertaining to gear and yellowtail, turns out I should have been asking about White Seabass! I came so prepared for jig fishing ,I neglected my bait setups only bringing up to 6oz weight and flyline tackle. Luckily for me everyone on this boat was awesome, and a really nice guy let me borrow a 10oz torpedo, but I think my bait presentation was a little off. All fish were caught on dropper loop squid, fresh dead and live, didn't seem to matter. I got bit a couple times, And landed a little calico. Then came the badass deckhands! The one deckhand named Gage (I believe) he hooks up on his personal rod and handed it off to me, and man I was grateful! Fought it all around the damn boat, finally saw color, then I pulled the worst rookie movie that I ALWAYS PREACH AGAINST! I pulled the fishes head out of water and snapped the damn line! But here came badass Gage and dives with the gaff and GOT HER! Ended up landing this beast! Gotta give it up for that boat man, I would have caught the skunk if not for them, ESPECIALLY THAT YOUNGSTER DECKHAND! It's no wonder that boat is always booked up. I will be a return customer! Every fish was jumbo size, and the one I caught was one of the better ones. Truly grateful.

Nice report. Beautiful fish. Did you say the deckhand dove in and gaffed the fish?

The boat is one of the best boats I’ve been on!!! Shawn is an amazing captain and cares about his crew and the people fishing on his boat. On multiple occasions he has handed lures out of his personal stash and had me try them when the bite is slow. He also will help the deckhands when the boat is slammed I’ve had him gaff multiple fish when the bite is on. If there is only one boat I could go on it would be the Aloha. The crew is great and are there to fish as much as they are to work. They love what they do and it shows.

Shawn and the Aloha are always a pleasure to fish on...when you can get a spot. I saw that post about the trip and hesitated before booking. Too bad for me.

Gage has come a long way since he started. Glad to hear he worked overtime for you.

Yeah man, both these young dudes were cool as hell and professional. Been around some good deckhands as close friends, and man these boys got it.

I don't think there is a better full day boat out there.
Shawn and Aloha Spirit, the deckhands and galley cooks totally professional in every sense of the word.

Yep Gage is the man, kid. Not sure how old he was when he started on the boat but he has been around for years and is the real deal. One heck of a nice guy and an awesome fisherman. Like everyone has said the Aloha Spirit is the best boat and Captain Shawn is awesome. He can sniff out the fish when everyone else is scratching their heads.
