Saw that there was a charter cancellation for Sunday so I booked immediately on a hunch. This was my first trip going solo to go after game species. Anyone who has seen my posts knows I've been asking a ton of questions pertaining to gear and yellowtail, turns out I should have been asking about White Seabass! I came so prepared for jig fishing ,I neglected my bait setups only bringing up to 6oz weight and flyline tackle. Luckily for me everyone on this boat was awesome, and a really nice guy let me borrow a 10oz torpedo, but I think my bait presentation was a little off. All fish were caught on dropper loop squid, fresh dead and live, didn't seem to matter. I got bit a couple times, And landed a little calico. Then came the badass deckhands! The one deckhand named Gage (I believe) he hooks up on his personal rod and handed it off to me, and man I was grateful! Fought it all around the damn boat, finally saw color, then I pulled the worst rookie movie that I ALWAYS PREACH AGAINST! I pulled the fishes head out of water and snapped the damn line! But here came badass Gage and dives with the gaff and GOT HER! Ended up landing this beast! Gotta give it up for that boat man, I would have caught the skunk if not for them, ESPECIALLY THAT YOUNGSTER DECKHAND! It's no wonder that boat is always booked up. I will be a return customer! Every fish was jumbo size, and the one I caught was one of the better ones. Truly grateful.
