Simple.....Albacore taste better than bft and yft......there's nothing wrong with having another species in the mix.

How about this for an opportunity? Albies, Bft, Yft, Yt and Dorado on the same trip. 5 different types of fish on one trip. I'll take that any day of the week.

I like catching bft especially the big ones and yft and bigeye but the table fare is inferior to Albacore. That's my opinion and I'm sticking to it.

Last year we headed to the YFT reports north of the Upper Hidden. We dropped the trollers just SW of the 425. We had a jig strike on a Juc broom tail trolled way back
and ended up with a 40lb Albie. Boxed the area for no others. we later cleaned up
on the YFT. I'm just sayin Albies may be still moving with the other tunas. You never
know. I like Albies over BFT but YFT rocks. To each his own. Nice report.

I agree with what people are saying. I was mostly kidding.... Geezz ;) I just think it is funny that when one alby is caught people go bananas. I mean it is August. A huge run of albacore isn't happening this season. Let's be realistic. (I hope I'm proven wrong).

And don't get me wrong albacore fishing was really the meat and potatoes of the SD fleet. I worked down there during that recent time. And yes it royally sucks for a great deal of folks now that they are not around right now. I have just caught soooo many of them from sportboat to private and I got sick of it. ALSO one HUGE thing to keep in mind. I have been out of fishing for the last 6 years and just got back into it, so my perspective is skewed. I always loved fishing bft more, so this year has been pretty sweet for me. But I do appreciate what people are saying.

Also for me table fare isn't why I love fishing. It is close to a non issue. Don't get me wrong, none of the fish I catch goes to waste. But even if I was deathly allergic to eating tuna I would still fish the hell out of them. I usually give at least half my catch away to the boat, other anglers who are less fortunate or want more meat, or charities, friends and family. And yes I do eat a good deal of what I catch, but that isn't the important part to me :)

On my first longer than two day trip ( a six day on the Excel in 2006 ) I did just that - Yellow Tail, Albacore , Blue Fin, Yellow Fin and Do Do all on the same trip! I thought it was always going to be like that....All of my trips have been good since then, but nothing like that trip.

Albacore has been my ticket to get to go fishing - my sweetheart loves Albacore! I just keep telling her they're running, I just can't seem to hook 'em anymore!!LOL I like Blue Fin fresh - but I think I like Abacore more - BBQ'd, seared, sashimi , even flakes in my ramen....Dang, I think I'm going to have to go to Tender Greens for some seared Albacore!

Well it would be very strange to have the Albies show up this late, and considering how warm the water is, they prefer 62 to 66 degrees and when it reaches 68 generally move north. However, I hope they move into the Cortez bank in US waters, that would be cool?

Wrap them in paper towel first, then put seran wrap on them. Leave them in the fridge for an hour. You'll be amazed at hte amount of liquid that comes out of the steaks or loins first, (this is how fish is kept fresh at a sushi restaraunt), and when you remove that moisture it stops decomposition and helps with freezer burn.

I never eat any piece of fish before doing this. When you defrost the fish do the same.
