I’m only here to sing 😢 the windy ocean blues now…If it blows all of August too, I’m going to need a good therapist.? Is there someone else I can be mad at about this wind besides myself , for wanting to go tuna fishing so bad? This sucks and blows , but in a bad way …😂

Well, you could always place the blame on climate change. That seems to be the ‘go to’ culprit for most weather conditions. If not that, you could try blaming the racist ocean that is holding our people down.

Good suggestions there, and I was going to go with climate change and blame it on my own truck and boat… so nobodies fault but mine. But then the news told me it was Jason Aldean who I should be mad at, so I immediately forgave myself about the wind thing, and put all the blame on that Aldean guy… I mean it was most likely him, and that song, that pissed off all of Portland , Seattle, and even Vancouver BC so much , people got so heated about it, it’s actually affecting the jet stream. I personally like the song though, and just wish they’d all cool down a little and help a guy out. I just want to catch tuna. There’s no other explanation for this wind. But there are albacore within sport boat range now. It’s starting to look like one of those years again though , where the fish are there, but the wind never lets up. Let’s hope something gives here by mid August. This is beyond ridiculous at this point, but there might be a silver lining to this wind, with the strong upwelling and temp contrasts it will create.

Tell me about it. We chartered the Mirage out of Channel Islands once in May which was windy as heck(thankfully a spot of shallow water in tight behind one of the islands yielded some good halibut), once in June which was cancelled due to wind and we have one coming up this weekend but it's supposed to be blowing 30 knots so pretty sure that's going to be cancelled as well.

Plenty of LFT caught due west of conception and Morro bay the last few weeks. 4 boats fishing their way back up right now. The wind has determined when and where the commercial fleet has been able to fish so far, and most of it’s taking place 200 + miles offshore, as they have been trying to fish the lee’s that are holding, but there were fish caught 140 miles out a few weeks ago, and those fish are moving eastward.

This has been the windiest year ever, as far as I can recall, maybe one year 30 plus years ago sticks out, as we surfed blown out chop everyday for what seemed like eternity back then, I thought we’d never see another glassy day. Pretty sure that was right before the water warmed up and we had a big El Niño event, and then it finally stopped blowing for a few months. Fingers crossed 🤞

When I lived in south east AK we use to take 14 ft lund skiffs out. You just need to pay attention and know what you're doing
we went about 40 miles or more, it was flat calm, beautiful day. that was about last time we had any albies around.

I’m betting we’ll see a few more randoms caught in the warmer waters mixed with YFT. Commercial guys still catching some LFT in this zone, a little north east now, and now mixed in with yellowfin. LFT from Mexico to Canada right now, and they are moving eastward and towards us. if , and that’s a big If, it ever stops blowing it’s going to be a fun party round here.

Marlin in 150’ off Newport Beach yesterday….we had all kinds up here in 2016, eating bones. We saw them in 200’ just outside the rock and inside point Estero numerous times. Never tried to hook one because I don’t really like to eat them. But I think if they show up again, we should all try to get at least one to the boat for a CAR picture. There’s all kinds of possibilities for an epic fall, but looks like summer is a total bust for cen cal at this point. Year of the never ending north winds. Can anyone remember a windier year ?

Talk of 2 more on the JigStrike too. Maybe a pretty good sized school got mixed up with the YF when feeding… hmm. Like to see an individual school if albacore only.

And they didn’t post anything? There’s definitely plenty of albacore in the cooler water. All those guys have been fishing the 70 degree water at the Cortes, and Tanner area almost 20 miles inside the cooler albacore water. I think the albacore they’ve caught are just spilling over and pushing into that warmer water zone and finding the boundaries of their eastern migration. From there, most of the fish will be forced up into central California to stay in their preferred water temps. It’s pretty much inevitable that we’ll see a shit ton of fish outta Morro Bay this year. If…… that wind ever stops blowing.

I have caught them down south in 69 degree water before they dried up so they might not be forced anywhere. That said , we caught way more out of Morro on temp/color breaks of 62 degrees. Im with you bro. I think you are correct about them coming back. Good call.

The good news, there will be more people targeting Albies now.
Hopefully we’ll get a chance to get to them. Looks like Tuesday the 8th might be a good day to get 15-20 miles offshore for blue fin outta Morro bay. But still too windy to get 50 miles out to the albacore, but maybe we’ll see some better windows start to happen after that. 🤞

There’s a couple more Albacore boats fishing their way up the break, due west of point conception now, and definitely on the break catching. I doubt they’ll stay with the weather out there, but they are catching some fish in that same water that’s about to reach the Davidson.
Two albacore caught on the Osborn yesterday per Dana Wharf , likely off Conception?
