Any 17-20' center console with a running 2 stroke. Go buy the one with the cleanest motor and trailer you can find.

For that type of fishing and budget,...I'd rather have a clean, low hours 12-15 foot skiff than a beat up 18-20 foot money pit.

13' or 15' Whaler
14' Livingston
15' Hobie Power Skiff
12' Hawkins
16' Radon (maybe)

That's just me. I prefer smaller & more time on the water VS bigger and more time in the shop. Think "Lean and Mean!"

If you can find any of the above clean with low hours for less than 5K you should buy it. If you find a Clean 16 radon for less tan 5K please send me link

Just be very careful, look it over very good. I weld on them every week. They don't last forever. Good luck

Aluminum boats are not my favorite. The are light and get great fuel efficiency but because they are light they pound underway and bounce around at rest. Also like Kirk mentioned, they have seams and wields that can bust. In addition aluminum boats typically do not have adequate flotation.

Montauk, something like this.

There are two issues with Whalers,... 1) BW have a foam core so be VERY careful while you are shopping and 2) BW owner's typically think their boat is worth more that it is.

I know where there is a bare hull 13' whaler. You could probably pick it up for $500 with a older trailer.

I was in a similar situation and ended up with a 15' gregor with a 4-stroke.

Funny, but completely untrue. There is no better feeling than heading out of the harbor in the morning in your own boat, figuring the bite out and having a plan come together all on your own. I enjoy fishing on sport boats and pangas down in mex as much as the next guy, but every fish that hits the deck of my own boat is 10X as gratifying....to me at least.
