Ben's Bday Bash

6-14-2020
Brian Kiyohara

Despite choppy weather, everyone had a good time and returned just shy of limits. A huge thanks to our friend Ben Okazaki for pulling his group together last minute on the heels of the county re opening sportfishing in San Diego.
Resuming operations would have never happened without the 24/7 efforts of Ken Franke, President of Sportfishing Association of California. Thank you Ken and associates for getting us back on the ocean!
Congrats to jackpot winner Robert Gudger with his #144 and to runner up Garett Tsukada with his #125

Tom,

This is a cut and past from the American Angler website. Just glad to see some fresh fish pictures after the dry spell.

The Stars Align

Ray Lopez

In the midst of traveling, we decided to devote a day to bluefin searching. We investigated a new area and as luck would have it, the stars aligned and a long plunker drift kept us busy while allowing us to break up the ride down.
Just getting started,
The Guys

Dream Come True

Afternoon a mellow travel day down yesterday, the boys weren’t messing around today and put in some serious overtime at the rail. Getting things started at zero dark thirty, the hot and heavy action on these slug yellows was like a dream come true. It’s not very often when the quality of fish is this consistent, but the gang took advantage of every minute. After a long day we are going to take a break and start heading back up the line. Check out Josh Kahane's sample

We were there last year for those jumbo Yellows. On the first 8 day of the season, Rocky’s Opener. We kicked their ass and they returned the favor, we got beat up. Don’t remember any surface iron fish, but the bit the YoYo iron pretty good. Big, mean, and nasty describes them. Tough to keep from getting rocked, even with tight drag, I lost several jigs to the bottom, just got sawed off. I had better results fishing a one oz slider and a Sardine.

Alijos yellows = combat fishing especially on the yo yo jig or dropper loop. Lot of fun but it kicks your ass after a couple back to back fish.

That is exactly it. I was on the trip Steve mentioned. I only lost one due to fishing 22# of drag on #60. 100# dropper was a fist fight in a phonebooth
