From Photo G. I just got off the phone with Jesse, and he tell me that the largest calico bass for the year of 2010 submitted to the BD monthly Photo Contest will win a Long Beach Series swimbait rod. It will be the "biggest" calico of the year judged and determined soley by Jesse. The one I will build will be a seven foot, ten inch, beefy swimbait rod, suitable for 65 lb braid, or 25 lb. mono/fluoro. These spiral wrapped (Downwrap) custom rods retail in Japan for US$ 593.00. I was thinking of making it BD black and red, with possibly some related color bling, such as metal Fuji windchecks, and a custom auto-detail paint flip flop (changes color depending on light and angle of sight). Although not decided yet, I will put on some titanium bling, and new Fuji SiC guides that are not available (yet) in the USA. You know what they say (in Japan) about Capt. G's rods-- "もっと良い竿があるけど、もっとええ値竿がおまへんわâ (You can find a much better rod, but you can't find a more expensive one). Still, there is a five month waiting list for the rods, so I guess they are OK. I will start on the rod this summer, making sure it is done by year end. You can come pick it up in Osaka, or I will bring it out to Cali when I make my 2011 winter business trip there. Peace out.
