I didn't feel disrespected. I'm sorry if you feel the thread is out of place. I intended it to be a greeting to everyone on Bloody Decks.

But yes, it is a reflection of my beliefs. I hope I didn't offend you.

As someone who grew up back East, (pretty secular but this is the tradition I grew up with), this post was great to see. Haven't had someone wish me a Happy Passover in 6 years.

It's been that long since my family has had people to celebrate a holiday with. We finally found a few people in San Clemente and had a Seder on Friday with the kids. It was really amazing and the kids enjoyed it.

    Thanks again!

If you're Ashkenazi like me and my family, I think Bowell said it best:

    A zissen Pesach!

OK, I am going off topic here, and I apologize. I promise, I will not jack my own thread.

Jake, why would I be bored hearing about your beliefs? Why shouldn't I be interested? Granted, maybe not in this thread or even in these forums...you were right, the moment I started doing more than wishing people a Happy Holiday, I was probably already a couple of steps down the wrong road, and I apologize again.

But even so, not here and not now, but still. I am interested in what you believe. I can't promise I'll agree, but I can promise I'll respect it.

I see many very modern problems with our country, but one of the worst is that we are not willing to explain what we believe...without trying to convert or demonize anyone who believes differently.

Jake, if you want to share what you honestly believe, I promise you, I'm interested. Go ahead and PM me. I promise:

    1. I will listen to what you have to say with respect.
    2. If I disagree, I will explain why.
    3. I you want to know what I think/believe, I'll tell you so, and again, why.

Maybe we can't find common ground, but I've got to tell you, if there is to be any real future for our country and our world, I think it starts with at least trying to find common ground.

Back to a very simple message:

Happy Passover for those who are celebrating...scrambled eggs with salami and matzoh, anyone?

I'll take some scrambled eggs with salami and matzoh! That sounds damn good!

Once again, I'm not Jewish but we do Passover in our family and I quite enjoy it. I think the history lesson alone is something that should be taught and remembered to all peoples.

Besides, the dinner and the wine are great! Who wants gefilte fish?

"It is a joyous time for those of us who are Jews, filled with traditions and family. It also has some comical aspects, but first and foremost, it is meant to be a reminder that my people were once slaves in Egypt, and though we are now (for the most part) free, our religion/culture commands us to fight as best we can against injustice towards all people. The Torah teaches us that so long as even one person (not just a Jew) is enslaved or imprisoned, we must act as if we ourselves remain enslaved and imprisoned...because once we were slaves in Egypt. If even one person goes hungry, we must do what we can to help, because once our people were starving as slaves in Egypt. So every year in the Springtime (many years coinciding with Easter because the reason Jesus was even in Jerusalem at the time he was arrested by the Romans was because he was a Jew celebrating Passover), Jews all over the world celebrate Passover.

I myself am a relatively secular Jew, but with a (again, relatively) broad religious education. For me, Passover is a festival of family and tradition, much more than a religious event. But for all Jews, it is a time of inclusiveness, a coming together, and also a reaching out to those of our acquaintance who are not Jews. All are equal in the sight of God, and all are welcome at the Seder table"

    Wow Jim!!!

    (That was awesome. )

    ...enjoy your 4 cups.

A zissen Pesach to you yours
& all of our friends, brothers, sisters
& families on the BD LR !

On this last night of Passover!

OK, so it's a year later, and Pesach has come again. I repeat the message:

A Happy Passover to all of my fellow fishing Jews, and to all who celebrate. May the year to come be better than the year that has past. May everyone, everywhere have enough to eat, a place to sleep, and especially freedom from fear, pain, and persecution.

    Tight lines all!

"To all of my fellow Jewish West Coast anglers, I want to wish you a chag sameach!

Tonight, as we celebrate the Passover, we say "this year (if anyone, anywhere is enslaved) we are ALL in bondage; next year may we all be free."

In the year to come, may all who are hungry be fed, may all who are unjustly imprisoned be freed. May you, all the Children of Israel, and ALL the world know peace and prosperity.

    L'shana haba'ah b'yerushalayim!
    (Next year in Jerusalem!)"

    Dear Jim,

Yes it's another year, but that post is a classic.

It really rings true, down through the ages!

    Zissen pesach.
