Yummy or live/dead flying fish?
Lesson learned. Tethered next time.
I've lost some too.
You want in?
BD'ers. Happy Saturday!
Wanted to close the loop on this post I made several weeks back. As you know we lost our first battle with the big boys.
Since then the crew have returned to the scene of the crime several times and have been rewarded with two 100-150lb grade fish.
Last week Thursday, it that all changed. Within minutes of arriving, our flyer got a bath when a fish exploded on it. It didn't latch on but interestingly, the right wing was damaged, as though it received the brunt of the punishment.
15 minutes later with a new flyer out. We got the connection we were looking for. 3 of us pulled hard and got the fish to the surface under an hour. 2 of us almost went into the drink in the process...picture guy with leg wrapped on the bow rail body fully over with monster...please be careful, we re-learned this rule again. This time we ended the battle on the bow with a couple of long gaffs. We needed a 3rd gaff to bring this beautiful fish on deck.
Anyway, we taped out at 303.5lbs.
Landed another 150lb fish about thirty minutes later. While still bent on the first fish, we launched another flyer which was bit just after putting the first one on the deck.
As though it weren't enough, we got bit again about 40 minutes later. This one was just silly. My buddy/captain/owner, #HuachinangoKing yells at me to put the Accurate 50W in gear as the reel is spinning like a top. It was in gear already but this monster was not stopping. We had it maybe a minute before we all hear the snap and see the line/rod go slack.
well, I'll end by stressing to those still trying...just keep trying. Build a program that you repeat/refine until you look like Seal Team Six. It's kind of silly but super fun when it all comes together.
PS. I would never have been able to do this if I didn't have a most excellent friend even more addicted than me to bluefin tuna fishing. Thanks #HuachingoKing!
That fish is an absolute PIG!!
Way to go and stick it out.
Bad ass congrats!!!!!
