Started the day o'dark thirty from pepper park. Half scoop lasted all day and much better than what i've gotten from MB this past month. Wind was up at was we left the point and water was green and cold (66) . Cruised through south 9 before it started to warm to 70. Dropped the troll and had a skippie instantly. Thought it was a good sign but spent the next hour trolling for nothing. Radio chatter was everything was dead 425, upper hidden, 9. Tired of trolling so decided to speed toward the 101. Spotted a few birds circling and veered to check them out. There was a cluster of birds sitting on the water and spotted a paddy 100 yards away. Looked lifeless but continued to make passes on the slow troll until my son saw a boil. Stopped the boat and he switched to live bait. Bit instantly and it started. chummed heavily while he fought his fish. it took a while on 20lb. Landed the boat's first yellowfin. After cleaning up, started to motor back to paddy and as soon as we put in gear, boils everywhere..we became the paddy. Super fun, every bait was inhaled when it hit the water. Fished it until we ran out of bait. Called another boat in, watched them get bit, and called it a day. 80 miles, 8 hours, all smiles. Seas were fishable but not comfortable.

Great job! Awesome memory for the kid.

Question. How is parking at Pepper Park at O dark 30? I’ve been reluctant to do so for safety and break in avoidance.

    Appreciate any feedback.

Been launchiing a lot from there as well as most of us on here and I haven't had an issue. I think people would have posted any problems or issues. Remember the park doesn't stay open all night... On the contrary... I keep finding beers in the bushes! :food-smil

Not really. There were a couple within a mile of us when we trolled the skippie. Once we found the paddy, and drifted there wasn’t a boat that was close. Took a while to find a boat to pass off the bite. Plenty of traffic south and west of us.

I’ve parked a few times without incident. This morning there were 2 cops in lot when we arrived. I understand the park isn’t open all night, but the gates and restroom were open st 5am when we arrived.

Only “issue” i’ve seen is with inexperienced boaters and jet skis doing donuts at ramp, driving with excessive speed at ramp, etc.

I really like the boat ride from south of the city to the ocean, but can’t wait for shelter island to reopen. Drove by shelter island and it’s getting closer for sure. Fingers crossed.

I appreciate that but before you decide...at least 4 times he told me he couldn’t possibly catch another but I still pinned a bait, gave it a lob, and handed him the rod before an instant bite. Abuse?

We’ve had such a good summer fishing dorado and now tuna I don’t think he yet realizes how good it is...

Haha! True dat! It wasn't on the ocean, but I took my son ice fishing when he was 12. It was SNOWING. He fell asleep with his head back in the chair and his mouth wide open. My buddy and I were cracking up because the snow was falling on his face and in his mouth. Yeah...he ended up with sunburn blisters on the outside of his eyelids. 15 years later, I still get shit for that lapse in judgement. Rule number one...don't damage the children!
