9/11 Eric and I ran to the marlin magnet, grabbed opelu then some perfect sized akus (2-3#'s) for bait. Put out a combo plate hoping that either were on the breakfast menu; did that for few hrs. Didn't have the patience for an all day baiting endeavor so we chilled the still very lively aku and opelu; maybe we'll find some mahis trolling.

Put out the spread and went alookin'; found some birds around 20 miles; same akus that were at the barge 2-4 ##'rs; scooped a dozen or so and went on about our way...

Eric sees a couple of birds and what could be a few porpoise; too far off to be sure. Head that way, birds are still hanging so we make a big loop around. Just as both of us are looking back at the long rigger; a blue pounces all over it, grabs it and immediately grey hounds the opposite direction. Knowing the fish isn't that big get down to clearing lines BUT this fish is hell bent on not slowing down (hmmm?). Actually need to come around on this fish; we've never seen a blue this size get this much line in the water.

Eric is of the opinion if he's fightin' the fish the rod is stayin' in the rod holder; hell we don't have this tackle for doin' that so I get suited up, Eric finishes clearin' lines. About 60 yds from the boat fish comes to the surface BUT something don't look right; he's coming in backwards; forensics show the hook pulled, tried to grab some belly meat, but ripped out, then tore about a 12" long gash right along the anal fin and finally got buried right at the base of the tail (go figure); hence the long run but no fight after that. Obviously he came up dead.

9/4 Mark, Eric and I head out hopin' to find Mark a decent fish, but we need to be off the water by noon. Mark (now working out of our Singapore development office); my former manager is on Island for a few days and he has Saturday morning to take a break.

Run out make a pass on the toiler bowl, pinnacle and head west for awhile, then back in on the 1000; when we get outside the barge we head it on in, about a mile or so after making our turn the long rigger takes off. Mark reels in a decent hebi, Mark's happy and the pressure is off. Clear lines and run in, back at the dock by 11am.

    Hey Pat,
Gotta love your consistency! Your boats have been like fish magnets! WTG on those 2 billfishes.....especially now when the action isn't the greatest.
