Hull is finally done with topcoat. The awlgrip came out fantastic, couldn’t be happier with the result. It isn’t perfect but much better than I could have ever hoped for. Looks like glass

Is that roll and tip or spray? It is looking smooth for sure.

Is this a center console build or are you thinking pilothouse?
It was a roll and tip job. Don’t have the area to spray. It’ll be a center console. Going to glass up a custom console for it once I finish the tank and deck

That came out a lot better than my rig!
Great Job!
What are you going to do as far as the console? I would move it forward a bit, six or twelve inches. You would be trading a bit of ride quality for rear deck space. I think the 82 console is the smallest one they used on the Outrages. The main issue is there is limited space on top to mount anything. A fish finder fits but if you want to add a 2nd display for a radar.. good luck.

Appreciate it!
I’m going to custom glass my own console that fits exactly the way I want it. Gonna be simple glass over ply, same width as the stock console but a bit taller. And yea I’ll move it forward probably about 6”

Yes taller is a good Idea. I built one for my 17 ft boat.
So here is what when wrong. My console was built to hold a 12 gal fuel tank. After I had it built I found a 20 gal tank for it. The 20 is a few inches skinnier. That console was too wide for 17ft boat. It was 1/2 ply glass and epoxy. I found a rail from a 18ft Parker for it and shorten it and had it welded. That worked out. The 2nd major problem is I put gel-coat on it. Sand polish not to bad at first. After about 3 years it started to separate from the glass. I built a windshield out of 1/4" plex. It was all great until the gel-coat started to fail. Maybe an epoxy primer between the glass and gel-coat would work. Poly and glass should work.

My next project is a Tee Top. Where can I get some 2" 6063 tubing? I'm in the SGV. As far as I can tell that is the right stuff.

Well decided to go to work on the trailer today and the thing damn near disintegrated to a pulp. Looks like a new trailer is on the list. Oh well. Time for more sanding...

FYI building boat trailers out of box section tubing should be a crime! Salt water goes in and eats its way out!

Well I found a trailer that’s in damn good shape, and it came with a free boat that’s in very bad shape. Had to drive to Phoenix to pick it up. But it’s home so time to tune it up and get it under the whaler. The bayrunner will get some attention once the whaler is done

If u look on Crigslist Ventura, you will see the the trailer that u need. They are asking $1200. It looks decent a bit over priced but it does have rails.

Yea I saw that one. But it’s crossmember is rusted and I didn’t want to deal with rust. I picked this trailer and bayrunner up for less than that trailer, just had to go to Arizona to get it. But was an excuse to go to the lake with friends for the weekend. Well worth it

Cool and now you have your next project as well. That trailer almost looks like the one I picked up for my 17ft whaler. Nice find. On my trailer I have heavy duty trailer tires and they still always look over loaded. They are rated at 1680 lbs of something like that. I replaced the springs due to heavy rust and found that one was broken. You may have to upgrade that trailer. The rage is a lot more boat!

I put D rated tires on it and larger 15" wheels before towing it back from Arizona. The tires are rated for 2150lbs. I'm also widening the bunks to 6" and keeping the double bunks. I put a new bow roller on it and will also add another 10" roller support as well. Axle is rated for 3500lbs. So I'm thinking about 1800 lbs for hull only, motor is 480, console, rigging, electronics, misc about 500, and full of fuel it's 400 lbs. That's about 3200 lbs. So I think it should be a good fit.

Well sanding bottom paint is now my least favorite hobby. I initially thought that a decent sand on the current layer would suffice but after starting I saw what I thought were serious blisters. So off came all 4 layers. Luckily none of them were blisters that penetrated gel coat and glass, they were all just spots of the barrier coat coming off. So I’ll re coat with 3 coats of pettit barrier and then 2 coats of Pettit vivid. Long weekend ahead

That bottom is looking great!
I will drop mine off next and you can strip off my bottom paint!
Toss on some primer and roll and tip the bottom! WE don't need no stinking bottom paint!

I wish! unfortunately the bottom of the boat has been bottom painted its whole life so a coat of primer and LP just wouldn't look right I don't think. Plus I've already spent $300 on bottom coat supplies thinking I was going to paint over current bottom paint, oh well, it'll look great after the weekend.
