Hey guys,

Just finished up a "Fishing Syndicate" sponsored open charter on the Triton out of LA harbor. Shane was driving, Nick in the galley, and Jeff running the deck. We took off at 5am with a nice group of 25 guys and gals. About 1/2 the group was rental rods. We had a group of realtors from Bakersfield come out fishing today.

We stopped at the bait reciever and got a nice load of 5" dines before heading over to the islands. Shane said they had been having a pretty good shot at the yellows early on, with good bass fishing and some yellows splashing around later in the afternoon.

Conditions were cool most of the day with a little bit of swell as we set up on the front side with the rest of the fleet. I was lucky enough to strike first blood !

The yellows soon started to cooperate a little and we got some going.

I think we went 9 for 15 as there was a nearby reef the fish were gunning for. The crew did a great job educating and managing the talent on board so tangles was not a issue with our group. Everyone who could flyline a dine got a few chances at a fish and a couple of hot sticks who combined talent and a little cooperation from the fish ended up with 3 yt a piece ! After awhile the yellows slowed down as Shane predicted and we worked our way to the west end with some pretty good bass fishing to finish the day. We hooked another yellow or 2 along the way but they earned their freedom. All in all, a great day to beat the heat. 1/2 of the boat being rental rods sounds like a nightmare and it has been for me on other trips. However, today it was a non issue and everyone got along, had a great time, and caught fish. This was all due to the great efforts of the crew to CONSTANTLY stay on top of the passengers, educate them about fishing the dines, and keep them moving and following their baits. Several of the newbies caught yellowtail and almost all caught some bass or other fish. Kudos to the Triton guys !
