Fished yesterday with 3 friends. Got a half scoop of terrible bait and cleared the point at 6:30am.
Plan was to head to 302 and check the 9/canyon on the way. We never made it to the 302. Found our first school 11 miles out, and it was game on. Wide open foamer fishing on surface iron, popper and stickbait. Fish were so aggressive around slack tide that you could drive right next to them and they didn’t care and bit everything you throw at them. We saw several other boats were driving right by acres of foaming tuna without stopping.
BFT and YFT of different size were all mixed in.
We had our fill around 9:30, kept 8 bluefin/4 yellowfin (25-65lbs)and released another 5 that were sub 20lbs
Spent next few hours chasing non biting mahi and called it around 1:30pm and dropped off the fish at Mario’s in mission bay.

For all you ice police out there, we had saltwater slush in the kill bags and drained it at the dock right before the pics were taken.

For all you ice police

Ice Police

There is alway a crucifier who wants to bag on a successful report. Good for you for cutting them off at the pass.

Great report, wont be long until it gets real crazy. Got to be running out of bait sooner or later you would think but seems like it thins out than more shows up.

Way cool. Always great to stay close to home and crush it. YFT about to go on the chew. I think they're tired of the YT and Dodo's getting all the attention! Nice work...👍🐟🍻

A lot of them were caught on the Noeby 150 popper or the Ghost 150 clear popper. The Daiwa BG 5000 and 8000 reels landed fish up to 65 lbs - no problem. The BG 8000 is mounted on a conventional rail rod and cast great with spectra to a 3 foot 80 lb leader.

Are those cuts at the anal fin a way to bleed them out? What's the purpose for doing that? That's the most awsome trip so close to shore. You guys kick ass!

Try the new technique called Analectomy, it prevents BFT from being assholes - it's like ikejime. It costs a ton of money to buy the special circular knife or a piece of wire.

Actually our buddy is a diver and was being super helpful. He gill and gutted most of our fish while we fished. He forgot his dive fins so he didn't enter the water when the tuna were around. Later in the day, the dorado were close to the boat and he speared a couple dorado.
