Got invited by my brother Manny Diaz and Joel Diaz(The Diaz Brothers, Not Scarface related lol)and his Bro in Law Lupe a week ago to fish 8/22. He says he wants to fish Cat, that our local offshore scene is too hit or miss. In my mind i am telling myself, i have a week to convince him to trailer down to Oside or SD. Wednesday comes around and Big brother confirms, We are fishing CAT. Meet up at Davies around 6am, go visit Nacho for a generous scoop of dines/macks and exit the harbor and point the boat towards the west end. A little bitt of swell but overall aaa smooth ride over. We get to the island and motor around for a little bit and drop anchor around 8:30. Within 5 minutes i get picked up and i make quick work of a 10lb yellow. Sweet, we are on the board. Our bite is pretty active with a good go around on calicos and bonito. around a half o
hour later my brother Manny is on the right kind again, quick work and our second yellow hits the deck. Manny pins another dine on and he is bit again instantly, only this time this fish is peeling major drag towards the island, then towards the bow, then away from the island. Peeling drag and rolling like a BSB my brother fights that thing for a good 50mins, countless times around the boat, the fish would take him to the bow and every time he would say "i will be right back" lmao. He finally turns this things head around and is gaining on him good, by now Manny is whooped and i can tell that he wanted to end it, even if it meant busting of the BSB. Right when he thinks its almost over the fish makes another good run, Manny looks at me and says "finish it" he hands the rod over to me and its up to me to get it done. He goes to the stern, grabs another rod, pins on a dean and he is picked up again. WTF!!! here i am on the bow fighting this BSB and he goes back there and just hangs another. I start gaining on this fish but he still has a lot of fight in him. I fight him for another 10-15 minutes and finally start to feel more like dead weight. I get him to the corner stern and finally see deep color. Holy F$$in S$$t!!!!!! Its no BSB,
    image.jpg
its a F$$in BIG Yellow!!!!!!!! they all run over to confirm and say "No F$$in Way" get him to the surface and my brother Joe sinks the gaff in. High fives all around and we are up to 4 yellows now.
    image.jpg
Here is a pic of my brother Joe holding the yellow
    image.jpg
a pic of the rats next to the big boy.
    image.jpg
Just for giggles i shoved a rat yellow down the big boys mouth.
    image.jpg
Our final count was 5 yellows, two hands full of Calicos and all the bonito you could want for lobster season. I am so glad i didnt convince my brother to go offshore after all. We would of never experienced this personal best yellow and probably yellow of a lifetime. Unfortunately we didnt have a scale on board and the fuel dock was closed on the way in. But weight suggestions are highly welcomed. I personally think it was pushing 50 or over 50lbs.

If that yellow had been feeding well with big shoulders and deep belly it would have gone over 50 lbs. easily.

Looks like a Cedros yellow. Long and skinny but still a hell of a fish. I am sure you're glad you didn't bust it off

Great fish most Yellows this size at Catalina are lost. I know I have hooked many this size att he island and never landed one. GREAT FISH congradulations on a truly great California fish.

You need to go back to Cedros. I have been there twice with Cedros Adventures and we had limits of Yellows this size and bigger.
